I just wanna get back to $2000 for a freekin radar detector. I've had a LOT of tickets over the past 14 years of driving, to the point that I had to get a lawyer, and I STILL don't think I spent a total of $2000 on tickets.
Forget the detector and eat the ticket.

![]() Case in point, in Illinois the fine for speeding from 1mph to 20mph over is the same, $120, no construction zone or other charges. That's it. No court costs or other fees, unless you choose court supervision. (of course other jurisdictions might apply things) If I was sent out purposely to generate revenue only, I would start writing at about 5-7 over. As it sits, I don't start until 11 over, unless it's a construction zone and people are working, then it starts at about 7 over, and that is for the worker's safety. As to the technique, if an officer has done it long enough, he/she will wait for the car they want and then hit it. Their eyes will tell them which car(s) is speeding and when to nail it. Will it alert other detectors around? Yep. But then again, chances are, he/she has already locked the vehicle they were wanting anyway. So those detectors are still fairly useless, IMHO, as the officer wasn't gunning from them anyway. |

You always do exactly the speed limit? I bet you don't. Take your violent nonsense comments elsewhere please.

![]() Police LIDAR guns have a 904nm pulse of light, between 100-300 pulses per second. The LIDAR gun sends out the pulse and does edge detection of the reflection and determines distance, then sends another pulse and calculates the time differential to determine speed. Now, if that's all it does, you're assumptions would be correct, but that's not all it does. Courts require judicial notice for a detection device to be considered valid for citations. The very wide beam, the gun is often held in a hand that no matter how steady is going to move the beam significantly once its several hundred feet out, and there are multiple objects which can potentially reflect the pulses --- all these contribute those police LIDAR guns not using just a couple of pulses in order to stand up in court. This is because one pulse might hit the headlight, the other might hit the center mass of the grill, a reflection off a road side, another car, or a single pulse might return multiple reflections from different objects. So, they must receive several dozen consecutive "good" returns to calculate the speed. This is why LIDAR guns can take a quarter of a second to a second or more to get a reading. ^^^ That is their weakness. When LIDAR jammer sees the first pulse, it still has a boat load of time (for a CPU) to respond before the 2nd comes in. It takes several pulses to determine the pulse rate and identify the LIDAR gun but the jammer isn't passively operating even at this point. The LIDAR jammer has already fired its IR LEDs (or laser diode if you have a Laser Intercept) in response. It does this at offset of a few dozen NS from the pulse it received - sort of a generic jam. The LIDAR gun, in effect, things it "sees" two reflections at two different distances and tosses it out of its sampling pool. Once the jammer has identified the LIDAR gun - again, long before the LIDAR gun has sent enough pulses to meet the standards of judicial notice - it may, depending on the gun identified, switch to a different methodology such as multiple return pulses for each pulse it receives. LIDAR countermeasures have been proven to work. The military uses them, but in a much more sophisticated way. Quote:

I got pulled over for radar at 146 in a 55. It was 4:30am and I was sober without a car in sight.. He wrote me for reckless driving and 70 in a 55.. still had to take the dang class and pay the $200 ticket but at least he wasnt a total tool about me going so fast on an empty highway. Im just glad he caught me at max 146! HAHAHA! Some cops these days are pretty darn cool.. Because like us, some of them have toys too and want to play. As long as it's not endangering others then they're usually pretty cool about it. Bobbing and weaving in 5 o'clock traffic.. now thats just dangerous for families and drivers that arent playing the awareness game driving around you.

Robbie, just saw this. There are some posts on here about placement of the jammer heads that are spot on. Depending on WHERE in S. Fla you are, come see us in Palm City. We have our own radar and laser guns, and can check the system out for you (we're an authorized Escort dealer) and make adjustments to the install if necessary.
Plus our GM Mastertech Tyler can make it even faster...*L* And I can iron out the shortcomings in the audio system. |
