You probably wont see a new power plant until the 6th Gen Camaro.

The GM gen V v8s will be debuted in the vette first, like always, then the camaro will get it a year later. . . Most likely.

All I know is I may have to make room for another car. I do know that I love the independent rearend of the Camaro. It is very fun at track events. I have noticed that the live axle cars (mustangs) have to be a little more careful. But, if you learn to drive your ride correctly and safely - it doesn't really matter... I may even concider a used Viper ACR to complete my horsepower garage.

All I know is GM needs to get their crap together, because they were not only 4 years late to the retro pony wars but they are continuing to be late on their competitors to the Mustang lineup!

It sounds like "Red Key" is a factory flash tuner and is the exact opposite of Fords MyKey. If that's the case, the technology is most definitely dormant in every model (including the base V6 and GT) due to it changing the factory flash the same way a SCT does. In my opinion, this is great news and a way for automakers to circumvent regulations imposed by the government. If GM and Ford purposely detuned a stock V8 to destroy CAFE and EPA standards and gave the owner the option to tune the car with aftermarket or optional performance upgrades, it could save V8 engines in the long run. With MyKey alone, you can limit the GTs top speed to 55mph.

Getting down to the wire on the buying process.

Been trying to stay below the $28,000 range. But what I've found out is that some of the local Ford dealers are offering 5.0's for about that much after rebates and some wrangling. Of course it's a bare bones model with a manual transmission, but a 5.0 nonetheless. I test drove an automatic version and it's a fun car! But again, I'm not a Ford guy and the interior still seems "cheap" to me.

The car I've had my eye on however is a 2011 Camaro 1LT RS V6. Loved how it drove and the interior is great. The wife even likes it a lot better. (women do have some sense, afterall)

All in all, I'm still a Camaro lean, but Ford is making it tough by slashing prices on their pony car!

Another thing you could consider is *not* getting the RS package and save the $2K. If the wheels are the big reason you want it, check out the member classifieds - people are always selling 20" tire/wheel packages from their SS or RS cars when they get aftermarket wheels. You could buy a set for $1000 and sell your 18" set for $500 for a net cost of $500. Or you could look into aftermarket wheels yourself down the road.

BTW, I am an NCSU grad myself.

Have you considered buying slightly used? For 28k you could easily get a nice used SS or 5.0. . . Honestly, if you're performance minded you won't be satisfied with either the v6 camaro or mustang because you will be VERY hard pressed just to equal the performance of the stock 5.0 and SS. If you're not that worried about performance, get whichever one you like driving more, simple as that.

Already have thought out that route, but I would also be adding the spoiler. Plus I think the halo lights look cool! But I've found on Craigslist that I could get a set of the RS/SS wheels (with tires) for $1000.

Anyways, thanks for the advice! Go Pack!

It's strange, the dealers in SC seemingly price out their used Camaros for just about what you can get new. One in particular had an SS on their lot for months because they were wanting way too much for it. I heard they sent it to auction after it sat there for so long.

The mods I did strictly smog legal here in Cali and for getting some needed low rpm torque as the v6 is a high revver, Camaro or Mustang. More fun to.

And yes not to be racing off the line, way past that, but you know I can't remmember when I last saw someone do it! Also why I didn't need another v8 for my driving style.

Good luck with the choice and do follow your gut also as part of the process.

The Camaro is already "common". Camaro's outnumber the Challenger in my area 2:1 and outnumber the 2010/11 Mustang by at least 3:1.
I'm in SoCal with a high number of Camaros, hardly see any to and from work.I do see 2-3 on the weekend when we are out but also same or more chally's and mustangs are all over the place!

Heck I see more old vw bugs on any given day 2-1 over Camaro's!!

I was considering a Boss 302 in Yellow Blaze w/ Black Stripes but if this Leguna Seca is gonig to be that much better I might go for the Silver w/ Red.
There are more differences between the regular Boss and the Laguna Seca version besides the red key. I can't remember everything exactly off the top of my head and I can't find the magazine to quote it but in this article (http://rumors.automobilemag.com/6703...eca/index.html) it talks about the five setting for the shocks. I don't think it's actually in the article but the highest setting in the regular Boss is the lowest setting in the Laguna Seca. There are some other differences but I can't remember them all. I'll try and find the magazine that lists all differences and post them but there is more different between the two models than the red key.
