Excess oil in the PCV system

I installed my Elite catch can at roughly 3400 miles and found that it was catching at least 1 oz of oil per 300 miles of daily driving. This amount of oil in the PCV system, although experienced by others, was excessive.

I took the car to the dealership have this issue looked at. Although, no cause was actually found, it was determined that the valley cover may be leaking. The valley cover was replaced and the results can be seen in the pictures.

The first picture shows 500 - 600 miles with about 2.25 ozs of trapped oil. The second picture is the amount of oil trapped with about 560 miles after the valley cover was replaced. For ease of reference the bottom line of the blue tape is were the oil level was at in the first sampling.

That seems to be the general problem with excessive oil consumption.

Sooo, I dont have a catch can. Where would the oil be going? Am I burning it?(if my valley cover was leaking)

Even if your valley cover isn't leaking, without a catch can, there is oil going into your intake manifold. And yes you are correct, it's being burned. I highly recommend everyone run a catch can. There are at least 3 vendors on here selling good catch cans.

if the valley cover is leaking....are we talking about it sucking air thereby increasing pressure in the oil system????

My interpetation of what was told to me. It sort of acts like a baffle for the vapors and by leaking allows too much to get through. I'm not a mechanic, my understanding could be wrong. btw I don't see any difference in oil pressure before versus after though.

i am not a motorhead at all.....but i did stay at a Holiday InnExpress before....

maybe presure is not the best term......but by sucking air into the oil system....more oil is vaporized and thus caught by the catch can.........

Is this covered under warranty?
Should I replace my CAI with Stock Components before taking it in to

I put everything back to stock before taking mine in. However, I don't believe it was necessary. Yes warranty covered the valley cover replacement. I did take in a bottle of the trapped oil so they could see how much we were talking about.

2nd this....i understand the PVC stuff....my question is, if there is a "leak" at the valley cover, are we sucking air, thus increasing the oil being caught at the catch can?????
