If a public forum is too stressing for you since you have other things to worry about, why are you even here? Or posting in what you would consider to be a sweatin, over nothing thread?

It's a public forum a place for people to talk and speak their mind about a certain topic. So what if people get a little upset, or frustrated is that any reason to belittle them? If so you should leave now.

They gave you onstar for free to try it out... if you don't like it, cancel it. Subscribe again in a few months if you want to unlock your car from 2 miles away. If you really can't wait, buy a Viper (or similar) alarm that does the same, is slicker, and doesn't have the monthly fee.

Didn't you 2010ers get onstar free for a YEAR too? I only got it free for 6 months. How dare they?!!?
There is a monthly fee, it is only about $3 or so?
I actually thought of getting the viper alarm, for the extra features, unfortunately it does not give you vehicle diagnostic information which can be handy at times. So it has some more features and less features at the same time.

Technology moves forward at an alarming rate. The OnStar control module in the 2011 Camaros is different to the 2010 models.

Therefore, the app has been developed based on the latest OnStar technology. That is how things develop. Companies are proud of their new technology and want to showcase it and that is what is happening here. They want to have something that separates previous models with a step forward.

And at the end of the day, it's an app. An application for your phone. That's it. It doesn't make the 2011 Camaros faster than a 2010, more comfortable or better handling...

It simply displays things on your phone, that if you have OnStar, you can access ON YOUR PHONE via the OnStar website or via your email. That's it.

2010 model year Camaro's were created beginning in 2009, until May 2010, when the 2011 model year production started.

Look at the jump from the iPhone 3G to the iPhone 4. There are a lot of things that 'don't work' on the 'old' phone that work on the new iPhone 4. My iPhone 3G phone isn't even 18 months old, but I also don't expect it to work like an iPhone 4. Technology just doesn't work that way.

Just like my 2011 Camaro 2SS/RS has HUD, it's an advancement, a change for the new model year, to offer something that wasn't there before, to showcase technology.

I hope that the 2010 guys DO actually get the functionality, so that they don't feel left out, but also realize that they were very fortunate to be the first one's with a Camaro and were able show that off for a whole year before us in 2011 crowd. That is something us 2011's won't ever be able to do.
The problem, the reason they/we are upset is that all these things can be done already through Onstar, it obviously works with the Gen 8 onstar hardware, otherwise onstar would not be able to unlock our cars or detect crashes etc., it really is a matter of internally at onstar headquarters making the internal system communicate with 2010's just like they can send up diagnostic emails its just a matter of sending that info to a phone. I get the part where they are beta testing it for 2011 and once they get the bugs worked out and get it fully integrated I could see them making it work for 2010's easy enough. As far as the HUD, I understand that, it sucks that it was almost available for 2010 but did not make the cut, it's like the Dash ABL almost made it too but then got cut. Stuff happens, and we can do those mods ourselves, we can't go to onstar and mod their system to work for the app, especially when it should already be working, but its a limited roll out so I understand that.

I just hope nobody out there learns how to hack that software to gain control over any or all Onstar equiped cars. Yea, I know, I'm paranoid! But I worked for over 30 years in the computer arena and security was always on my agenda. This app and Onstar in general scars the h_ll out of me.

this thread is entertaining. especially the guy who thinks "blackberry" is an app friendly phone. yeah, there are apps for it...but no where near the support or user base behind iphone or droid phones. your right about the blackberry being a business oriented phone, i'll give you that much. has the largest fan base when it comes to government workers as its the primary form of out of office email...business class phone. but like myself, i know most other people in here didn't buy a car to go with their work phone. they bought a car that represents them, even if their phone depicts them as fun and easy going kinda person, just like their car...but says BAMF at the same time! you should consider yourself lucky that all you have to worry about is app support for your phone and not app support for your BAMF CAR!

The app doesnt work with my 06 Colorado.

Gm should put an LS motor in my IROC-Z. How dare they come out with improvements and not take care of my older vehicle.

Tell you the tire pressure / oil life / mileage / etc - all can be done via a computer or while sitting in the car. I see myself using this all of 5 mins a month (if that much).

A lot of you 2010ers have had your car for a year or so and got all the attention of having it while we hated on you... this app ain't worth getting your panties in a bunch over. Go for a drive, you'll feel better!

Cant agree with you there. The people that have the 2010 model are some of the most die hard fans that camaro will ever have. They waited with baited breath to get there cars and counted the minutes. Of course they are going to be pissed when they see they were excluded. I see this as a kick in the nuts to any serious camaro fan who has a 2010. I am going to write on star that since I feel there service is over priced this exclusion was the final deciding factor.

Yes they might have posted it out there but it still is a turd move not to figure out how to get this info to me.

I guess I now have no regret about canceling on-star earlier this week.

Someone's initial reaction to change or 'disaster' usually reveals a lot about them. No one really knows why they can't support the 2010 model yet, but with limited information your general attitude on life will probably take you down 1 of several initial-reaction paths:
  • The conspiracy nut: This is a screw job, GM and Onstar did this intentionally as a ploy to get people to buy new cars, they probably killed Kennedy too! LET'S GET 'EM!!
  • The self-absorbed, spoiled child: How dare they develop something that doesn't work for ME! ME, they're most treasured customer! I allowed them to give me Onstar free for a year and they won't give me a free iPhone app too?!? I can't believe someone has it a few months before me, I HATE THEM, I HATE THEM, I HATE THEM!!!
  • The 'life isn't out to get me' guy: Technical complications are keeping it from working right now, but they'll probably figure it out and deliver to me as soon as they can. I'm excited for the opportunity to have it on my phone!
  • The hermit - What's an iPhone?
Just some examples, mostly meant as humor, but I hope you get the idea. Not singling anyone out, just saying, keep it all in perspective and it's OK to laugh at yourself sometimes.

Mine won't start using the application. I have a real transmission!

...Just doggin' ya!

I still love this app! I called my dealer and let them know about it; they were very excited to hear about it. Apparently Robert (my sales rep) knows a couple of people who would love to know about that! Superior Chevrolet... they're mah' boys! LOL

Ya'll don't have heads-up displays, either. I find that feature infinitely more useful. I was miffed when I bought my Canyon in 2004 to find out that the 2005 model offered a sunroof. I was also miffed that I couldn't get a standard transmission in an Inline-5 Crew (and wasn't willing to get the Inline-4). I still didn't defecate a brick about it. Vehicles improve overtime; features are added, etc.

OnStar can't change your hardware from Gen8 to Gen9 over the air. I bet all of the Cobalt owners are rallying now that their car is being discontinued, right? Things change over time, and it's not necessarily a bad thing.

...What I have to focus on is not buying a Z28 when they come out next year.

If I were a "die-hard" Camaro fan, I would be more upset about having a 2010 SS (versus a Z28), than not being able to unlock my doors with my phone. Maybe it's just me, though?
