Everybody has one or two "Directional" Schools on the schedule....
North Texas State, Eastern South Carolina A&M, Northern Idaho Community College, University of Phoenix Online, and DeVry... but Boise State has a full schedule of them...Fresno State, Nevada, San Jose State, and Louisiana Tech aren't even good high school teams. (Sorry if you're an alum of one of those fine establishments)...just sayin'

I'm not sure what to think about OU though. Either Missouri is REALLY good, or OU REALLY sucks. |

Hello!
|
Fix it all with an 8 team playoff series.
First four games are the top 4 bowl games (Orange, Fiesta, Rose and Sugar) and the winner gets to claim their right to those titles. Match up would be 1 vs 5, 2 vs 6, etc or 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc...either way...I like the 1 vs 8 as that would put 4 vs 5 in a game! Anyway...all 4 winners go to the next level, sort of a final 4 to play in the BSC Championship Bowl. All in all, it would make 2 teams play 2 more games than normal, 2 more teams play 1 more game than normal....other 4 teams (all losers in the bowl games) would play the same amount of games as today! Then all this who should be who shouldn't be in the championship game will be decided between the best 8 teams based on BCS format! Leave all the other bowl games out there for other teams to play in...still nothing wrong with that thought process. Everyone shoots for the BCS Championship Series this way....make the top 8 and you are in (sorta like the NCAA field for basketball). There would be some complaints on the #7 and #8 teams but if it's based on BCS rankings, then it is what it is...schedule harder teams if you want a shot a the BCS! The money generated from a format like this would double or triple the current system as you still have the same bowl games plus add in another round of games. Those games (4 big bowl games) would be played where they currently are now, the other 3 games (final 4 and championship) on neutral fields selected ahead of time (like the super bowl). Play the first 4 games on 1 Jan, second round the next weekend and championship 2 weeks later (gotta build the hype!)...done by 1 Feb! Oh yeah...eliminate conference championships to make up the 1 extra game for most teams...2 will still play 1 extra game. Easy fix...easy money and everyone is happy! |

Won't work. Too many 2-loss teams in the final 8 each season. You can't give an opportunity for a 2-loss team to get to the championship.

It's no different than now, saying only the #1 and #2 teams get a shot! The BSC standings determine the #1 and #2 teams...it would also determine the top 8 teams to make the playoff... ...and if a 2 loss teams beats an undefeated...well, maybe that undefeated team wasn't that good or had a week schedule! |

So if team A goes undefeated, including beating team B in the regular season, but loses to a 2-loss team B in the "championship" game, you'd be ok with team B getting the trophy? When team A has the better record? What's the point of the regular season then? Just selling tickets to suckers? Playoffs are just as arbitrary as the current BCS system, but they also cheapen the regular season. At least the regular season counts for something in the BCS. Edit - Why not just get rid of the regular season then, and just do a 125 team NCAA tournament if all you want is an arbitrarily-determined "champion". |

Hello!

That's thinking like the BCS has always been the "system"! It's all BS and it can and needs to change!
Yes the regular season means something but if a undefeated team can't beat a 2 loss team then...well, they deserve to lose! Beef up the schedule next year so either A...you can beat said 2 loss team or B...you are the 2 loss team and beat the undefeated team! The BCS is not the answer...it's BS and at best, complete BS! You can't and shouldn't crown a "champion" based on a computer! Add in the "human factor" and then we have a system! Shit...let's just take the first rankings of the year and hand out trophies based on your thinking! |

I'm fine with a playoff system that only includes undefeateds. Anything else and we're probably talking about too many games, anyway. Also, make the schools with the worst strength-of-schedule ratings play each other for the right to get into the playoffs. |

If you allow one-loss and/or two-loss teams in, you'll never be able to keep the number of playoff games played below 3. And there will always be arguments about which one and two loss teams should be allowed in.

You still didn't answer my question...
What happenes when every team out there has lost at least 1 game. Your "rule" seems to have a problem now, huh?

I didn't think it needed to be answered, as you'll have that problem with a regular playoff system too. So it's a push.
