I am a huge 3D fan.

For those that think 4k or 3D without glasses are coming, you have at least 5 years if not longer until they come out. Oled will be the next big thing.

I am personally waiting for them to come out with true hologram sets.
funny you should say that when just a couple of mins ago on my break i went on yahoo and there was a article on Hologram and how they are close to a breakthru, but i still think we are 5-10yrs away from that happening like you said

5 years for a good 4k to be cheaper, closer to 10 years for good glassfree. My guess around 15 years for awesome holograms. (my predictions for mainstream)

Awesome progress in holograms

OLED has been delayed more than a few times. It won't ever hit main stream. LCD and Plasma have their own versions of ultra thin TVs so its not really needed. Something else will come along and OLED will be a figment of our imaginations.

3D TVs are worth it if you have access to a 3D TV channel and plan to get 3D movies. So far there are only a few cable providers that offer 3D channels (Cox Cable not being one of them). The 3D technology in home TV sets is much better than what you see in movie theaters. The active shutter glasses make the images pop while retaining the incredible clarity of 1080p.

Oh, and death to 120hz! At least for movies. It takes away the cinematic feel.

But, OLED is much brighter and runs a lot cooler than any current Plasma or LCD/LED. Unless something else gets developed soon I personally think OLED will be next.

I agree that the HOME 3D is SO much better than theaters. The active shutter is awesome just darn expensive per glasses.

Sometime 1080p is toooo clear...LOL
