I sold one a few months ago that I had repaired. I bought it from a salvage yard and it had been damaged in a wreck.

If you don't need OnStar then you could go the CoStar/BlueStar route http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=108790

Actually, the cheapest and ghettoest (<-- sp?) way to get BT is by using the following:

Size: 16.1 KB

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-623-_-Product

You just plug it into the AUX port and you can hear the phone conversation through the car speakers. It comes with a handy AUX extension. I routed it this way so that the cable wouldn't be exposed:

Some of the downsides however, is that the battery doesn't last as long as advertised. For some reason if you are running the A/C while you are talking, there's a lot of static.

Other than that, the call quality is good!

Cool device. Can you run the device off it's USB charger? Or does it not work while the battery is being charged?

To be honest, I haven't tried it. But I'll give it a try next time. It may not help that the USB cable was thrown in the wash and dryer

EDIT: Okay, I just tried plugging in the cig lighter/USB/charger deal, but I don't think it's the proper size. It doesn't fit snug into the cig lighter area. I'll try again tomorrow.

First write down your account number.
With the new unit installed, press the OnStar button in your car.
Ask for tech support.
Ask for your station ID.
Tell them that you want to replace the station ID on acct (your acct number here) with the number they just read to you.
Don't say anything else.
They will send a programming message.
Call them back and verify your name, gps position, and station ID.
I tried this it didnt work out so well... They thought I was the original owner of the box which was deactivated. Wouldnt give me the station ID nothing. The OnStar rep put me on hold forever and told me they couldnt do it. She acted as if I was up to no good or something..... Anyways after loosing my cool I believe I was hung up on a few times.. I believe it was my fourth call to get someone smart enough on the phone to understand what I did. She asked me if I was a dealer technician and if I wasnt than I just did a huge crime. I asked why does it matter etc etc ran in circles for quite a while. Really sucked... It works now so I suppose I cant complain.

Yay for bluetooth!

I mean no disrespect, but they probably thought that the unit was stolen. So they eventually got it to work for you though, right?

It's possible I agree. The lady acted like my car was an SS the box I had in it was an SS and couldnt quite grasp why I exchanged it. Even after I explained myself I really dont know she seemed to put me on hold and ask her supervisor and they shot it down. I suppose its really confusing to call them from using a different box making them think your someone your not and trying to explain that the deactivated account isnt yours but this "Account number is can you switch it?"

It's a problem of their own creation. The non-Bluetooth is completely identical, down to the traces on the board. The only difference is that they didn't solder a $15.00 (retail) Bluetooth chip onto the board (and a few resistors). They then make it so that you can't upgrade the module at any cost. That is an absurd policy for a $30k plus car. Hands-free calling is a standard feature on cars that are half the price of a Camaro.

I didnt have enough time yesterday to fully test the onstar system after work but onstar isnt working now it just beeps. The last person I talked to transferred the account so they know its me when I call now and all. I called yesterday after the transfer because I was getting the message that the box was inactive although it wasnt and getting the initial message welcoming me to onstar and taking me to an account activation specialist vs the normal onstar navigation specialist. So a lady yesterday completly broke it. I also tried to dial my old car number and it says I'm unavailable. If push comes to shove I'll just cancel my onstar subscription.

You can ask the unit what your OnStar number is. Of course the other number will be unavailable, because it's no longer in the car.

If someone will make me a good deal on a non-bt unit, I'll finish my research on converting a non-bt unit to a bt unit, and that should make it so that OnStar never needs to know what you did.

If you can get this accomplished, we will worship your name until the end of eternity
