Winter Blend Fuel

Does everyone else's Camaro absolutely hate the winter blended or oxygenated fuel that is used from Nov to Feb every year? I have a '11 2SS L99 and I noticed the difference right away in terms of mileage (loss of 3-4mpg). Almost thought I had a leak somewhere. Took me a day or 2 to remember that the stations have to switch to winter blend at the end of Oct. My car also starts and seems to run a little bit rougher on this blend as well. I have fueled up again since then and the station I used for the first tank is a normal station for me to fill up on so I don't think it was bad fuel. Anyone think doing a fuse pull may help?

Do you have ethanol in your fuel all year round where you live?

All my cars hate the winter blend every Oct-Feb. You can watch the gas gauge moving down.

Yeah, I'm in the mid- Atlantic region so ethanol is in our fuel too all year round. I'm not sure if the entire country has to use different gas during the winter or not might just be a regional thing.

Didn't know there was a "special" winter gasoline mixture. I know deisel has a special mix just for winter and colder climates. Ethanol is year round stuff.

While you're looking for your normal gasoline you may want to take that summer air out of your tires and put in that special winter air. Just to be safe.

Some links explaining what the OP is referring to. The second link is the most informative and interesting.

Well smart a-- be glad that you don't have to deal with it out there where you live in bum f--- nowhere. cause unfortunately we have to in the Northeast. Tell ya what I invite you out here and I will buy you a tank full of our oxygenated fuel so you can experience the fun for yourself AND then I will let the air out of something and put my special winter boot back in

I thought winter gasoline was blended to vaporize at a lower tempature to make starting easier, Ethanol delivers crappy milage due to its lower energy comtent...

I think you are right about the vaporization! Ethanol on the other hand I believe is more powerful than gasoline. It's alcohol..

thank you tree-huggers...because of you gas is more expensive and we get worse MPG in the winter.

The difference between conventional summer- and winter-blend gasoline has to do with the Reid Vapor Pressure of the fuel. RVP relates to the volatility of a gasoline. The more volatile a gasoline, the more likely it will evaporate as the temperatures rises; evaporated gasoline contributes to unhealthy ozone and smog levels. Summer gasoline has a low RVP and is less likely to evaporate when compared to the high RVP winter grade. The Environmental Protection Agency says conventional summer-blend gasoline contains 1.7 percent more energy than winter-blend gas, which contributes to the summer blend’s slightly better gas mileage.

I notice a drop in mpg every November when the switch happens.
