While I may end up with these at some point (when I am bored stiff and have nothing else to do) I don't see what the prob is with the stock buttons. I run twisties all day long and have no problem using them.
![]() People, with your hands at 9 and 3 on the wheel you can turn it 180 deg to each side without having to let go and can still hit the buttons! Seriously, if you are paying attention to what the hell you are doing when driving in this manner I see no need for these. But then again, the talent has to be there too... ![]() These are cool tho and would allow for the "casual" approach to shifting if desired.

I installed the Shifter with Tap Shift from Carter's Fab & Design a couple weeks ago. I really didn't think I could love my car more than I already did, but moving those damn buttons off the stearing wheel and onto the shifter made all the difference in the world. If you Tap Shift; you will definetely want this. Best mod i've put on the car so far!

The thing about it being mounted on the steering wheel or not, if you look at the F1 steering wheel the paddles are mounted on the steering wheel and move with the wheel:
![]() While we're not exactly copying F1 technology, you have to keep in mind, that if you're driving and shifting in the middle of a corner where your hands are crossed, if you're approaching anything near the limit of grip you will spin the car because of the temporary disconnect of power that will result in a short burst of weight transfer, thus result is almost like a lift oversteer. You should, in practice, NEVER shift when the wheels are not relatively straight anyway. Therefore, where the paddles are mounted is really an issue with style and semantics. Our goal with this kit is to provide you a better ergonomic option to the factory tap-shift, while making it easy enough to install so you don't have to remove the airbag and steering wheel to install, and make absolutely no modifications to the factory hardware and still maintain the tap-shift feature. There'll be nothing to cut, nothing to drill, nothing to remove except for two small screws and replace with our longer screw and mounting hardware. Test fitting on an actual car in about a week, and as soon as we can confirm all the changes will clear all the operating hardware, we'll go to production and hope to have these in by first quarter of 2011, probably shortly after the new Hurst Comp Plate and Sticks are available. |

It has nothing to do with skill. If you turn the wheel 180 deg without letting go your hands will be crossed at the forearms, the buttons will be on opposite sides and confusing. If you think under those circumstances you can drive safely or efficiently please don't do it next to me. Also if for some reason you think you can use the existing buttons under any circumstance you are mistaken.

![]() PS And I forgot to ask since you pissed me off about this. Why do you think it is safer to drive with one hand on the wheel while reaching for your shifter?
