While I believe most formula racers use tapshift.... the fact of the matter is... anyone can drive an auto..... but only the learned can drive a manual. I am NOT, repeat NOT hating the A6, just stating the obvios fact.

There are some who can't drive an auto LOL. Most people can learn to drive a manual fairly quickly, mastering it is what takes skill and/or practice, just as with tap shift.

I much prefer the M6 over the Automatic. Just imho.. for me.. I rather work the gears and have a blast doing it at the same time.

Everyone has their opinion.. that's mine. Love it.

btw - I learned how to drive on a farm tractor, lmao.. I'm serious.
Haulin' hay, drove it off a 4 foot cliff.. popped wheelies.. man you name it I did it starting at a very very early age (childhood). lol
Enjoy your night guys.. have a beer!

Repeat, though shifting gear may be fun and exciting for some...........the additional task of shifting gears manually, factually is just shifting gears manually. You're not driving a transmission. Driving the entire car, in as a whole sum is a entirely different matter, one that requires the directional steering, acceleration and braking of the car in order you control its safe and effective movement, obviously while paying attention to whats happening around you and adjusting your driving accordingly and skillfully to those conditions, whatever and whenever they may arrise.

Not much skill to drive the M6 if it's anything like my 98. That one is nice and smooth except 1st and 3rd are to close. You do it long enough and it's second nature like riding a bike. I dont drive mine much anymore but when I do it's like I never stopped. I think that and ease of ops is what made these new 6 speeds so much better then years ago. BUT in my stop and go driving I definately prefer my auto in the 2010. I always wondered how many thousands of shifts I have done in 28 years of manuals!? Besides I walk in circles now as my left leg is stronger then my right, hehe!

I think that to us older guys who have been driving manuals for a long time (in my case 40 + yrs.), although we still may love them as I do, we can really appreciate the auto. I guess driving a manual is more normal now than a thrill.

It does when you're turning corners back and forth...

As said in an above post I see it as not that much of a skill BUT mastering it and shifting efficiently is.

That's the way I see shifting a manual tranny. Not so much a skill. I could do it at 13 on my grandmothers property. It took me less than a day to drive stick back then a few days to do it efficiently.

Once I got out on the road legaly I was able to do anything at anytime. I don't see it as a skill. You just have someone show you how to do it.

To me a skill is something a small number of people do.

Carpentry is a skill.

Shifting a manual tranny is not.

Shifting at a Nascar level is.

It sure is fun though.

This is 100% correct. I know I'm gonna get blasted for this but there seems to be a lot of complaints of "burning clutch smell" and "Gear grinding" so perhaps some are still driving not mastering.

To me it would be easier to have buttons on the shift leaver. As another mentioned it is also hard to shift while trying to turn.
