Sitting here at the dealer about car jumping out of gear and first thing asked " Has it been modified". Said yes headers CAInand Exhaust. Said check it out and it would be up to GM if that would be covered. Then was telling about the valley cover said ain't heard anything about that and said it was probably because of my mods. He's sorta a dumbass! Let's just see what happens!!!!!

Well the dealer I took the car to wasnt the dealer I bought the car from, and guess what, the car jumping out of 6th gear they said nothing was wrong with it. And wouldnt even bother seeing that it was using oil (possible leakage from the VC). Said that it probably happening because of my mods. I think they didnt want to deal with me because I didnt buy from them....
The good news is they hooked it up to the computer and did not detect that I have a Tune!!!! (EFI Live)..... |

They hooked it up to look for any tripped codes. Probably not looking for any flash differences. I'll have to say it again. I must be lucky to have a knowledgeable tech like Bill, their LSx guy, taking care of my car. I'm sorry to hear you guys are having issues with your service depts. My car has no mods other than the catch can. Point your dealership to this thread. The excessive oil in the PCV is a common issue in the LS3 and LS6 (iirc) and the valley cover being at fault. People without catch cans won't know where their oil is going. |

Interesting. after 6k miles, I've not found anything other than liquid...and believe me I've been looking. Yours is breaking off mesh and it's making it through the rest of the mesh and diffuser holes? The bad thing is if that is happening then potentially mesh could wind up going back the other direction, during reversion.:(

Sorry there isn't a service bulletin. You have to present your caught oil, the amount of miles representing the catch, and hope they have at least one good tech/car guy employed. The tech at my dealership is their Vette guy during the day and eats, drinks, and sleeps performance Vettes once he clocks out. These are good the kind of mechanics some are lucky enough to know and the dealerships that employ them should be thankful to have. Gotta love people that know their $h!t.

Well, after some time, I was able to take my car in for service. (Mine was the one using a quart of oil every 500 miles.) Here is the message I received from the dealer today:
"I believe we fixed the oil issue. We had ordered a new valve cover, as there was a revised design. The old one has some silicone covering the drain hole on the inside of the cover, so it was sucking oil up through. You should have had some consumption prior to the S/C install, as it was a production issue." Mine is a 2010 2SS, August, 2009 build. Never did get TSB number. |

sorry about the questions. Just curious. Oh and your service request ticket should mention a TSB, if there is one.

Part number is GM# 12570427 LH. Mine is the LS3. I have the old valve cover. Will post pics later. There is a very small drain hole at the rear end of the inner plate of the cover just below the PVC valve. The problem is that half of this hole was covered with the silicon they use to seal the edges of this plate. This causes a siphoning effect, siphoning oil into the PVC valve. The extra boost of the supercharger exaggerates the problem. Other symptom of the problem was pinging in 5th and 6th gear. I didn't get to see the new valve cover, but the dealer said it solves the problem. Before the fix, the inside of the tailpipe was covered with an oily film. I drove the car 150 miles after picking it up and no oily film. I think the problem is solved. Also, I couldn't get any pinging to occur on the drive home. I will be watching this carefully, but I am reasonably confident that the problem is solved. |

As promised, here is a picture of the problem. This is the bottom side of the left side valve cover. You can see the stem of the PCV above the valve cover on the left. The arrow points to the small drain hole in the baffle. it is partially blocked by the white silicon used to seal the edge of the baffle.
