Diff fluid change

Also there have been a lot of threads about the diff fluid containing shavings. I've heard it's normal break in for a Differential and you should change it after break in. Don't worry , you still might have a warranty !

OK correct me if I'm wrong but the engine oil capacity is 8.5 quarts with filter change? (Buy 9 quarts)
The differential capacity is 1.1 quarts? (Buy 2 quarts) The automatic transmission holds how many quarts?

There is a TSB for the V6 manual transmission (limited slip clultch plates?) and dealer replaced gear oil and additive no charge.

Found an Amsoil dealer close, they recommend the following:
Rear differential .... Amsoil Synthetic Severe Gear 75w-90 Auto Transmission ...Amsoil Synthetic Low viscosity fuel efficient ATF Engine Oil ... Amsoil Synthetic XL 5w-30 This stuff is expensive! Mobil 1 ATF fluid and Gear Oil is alot cheaper so I don't know what to use now? Sorry for the capacities question earlier but my wife had the car out with the manual in the glove box .... I was looking for an answer now ... I'm impatient ![]() And Royal Purple was more than the Amsoil

On my SS (auto) I used the 1 qt of Mobile 1 LS fluid and friction modifier. (the Mobile 1 by itself still grinds too much)
It is a bit messy to change, but not hard to do at all.

1 qt of RP Maxgear is about $17 at Pep Boys last time I bought it. It does wonders for the differential and is well worth it. For normal driving it will last for years.

Did you use any additive with the RP for chatter? And normal driving ... I drive mine pretty hard in short burst. Daily driver 10 miles a day.
I plan on getting the differential changed next week ... just don't with what yet? I just had the oil changed 200 miles ago with Mobil 1 but I think the next change will be with Amsoil? The transmission seems like a big expensive job and I really don't want to go back to the dealer and not sure about the local garage mechanic to get it right? I sure would sleep better knowing it had FRESH fluid tho!

You don't need any additives with RP; it's ready to go. Normal driving is anything besides racing, as in track racing. Amsoil is supposed to be good stuff; I've never used it. I've been using RP for years and haven't seen any reason to switch to anything else.
Using RP's Synchromax in the trans will quieten it down considerably. Everything just runs smoother too. Well worth the cost.

I have never changed diff. fluid in any vehicle I have ever owned...... I have owned performance cars before (01 Trans Am, 07 Trailblazerr SS). Never had a problem..... Oh yeah, I've been a diesel mechanic for 15 years. Never changed diff. fluid in any truck in any fleet I have worked at...... just sayin

I've owned or still own a 454 Corvette, 2 different Z/28 Camaros, and everything in between from motorhomes to compact cars. Never changed any differencial fluid ever unless I had to replace a oil seal or gasket. |

That may be true, but a post break in 1500 mile diff fluid change can't hurt anything..
