BEAT day at the track

I felt like a dingbat rookie yesterday. Not that I'm an expert, but I NEVER had a problem doing a burnout at the track. I went to Chevy Shootout at ATCO Raceway in NJ yesterday and ran my car for the first time. They had nothing but Pro Street and Dragsters running, and I was jumping in for test & tune in between. Because they were doing huge burnouts, they kept hosing the track more than a street day and I was driving through a river to get to the line. I could NOT get a burnout going with traction control OFF to save my life. I smelled burning clutch too I thought. It was embarrassing, the dude just told me to forget and go. More embarrassing was I had so much water on my tires and no stick, that I slid first (at the point you are getting stick), and then when I banged second I slid again sideways AGAIN.. WTF!! What a bad first day. I don't even want to post my numbers. I was so mad. I'm not going to the track until it's 100 degrees out next summer. OH! And Atco doesn't let you drive around the water. Another WTF for us stock tire car drivers. I'm really irritated at the track. I almost don't want to go back to ATCO..

Black Friday test and tune at ATCO. Should be a better day, lots of Gen 5 going.

Sounds good. Gotta get a better day than that day from hell. Never raced against a 9 second car before. It's definitely distracting.

Don't drive through the water with street tires. You need to go around it. You probably had water up in the tread which is what caused you to get squirrley on the track.

With stock tires you don't need a burn out. You just need to kind of spin off the rocks and dust. One good spin should do it. I just go up and kind of do a slight rev and clutch dump...nothing hard though. Burning out on the stock tires is going to do nothing but take miles off the tread. Drag radials and slicks are a different story.

You need to also make sure you lower the pressure in the rear to about 22-25 psi and raise the front to about 44 psi.

Launch at around 2500-2800 RPM. If you feel any wheel hop...let off or you'll take the chance of breaking something.

You cant avoid the water at Atco and I found that the P zeros like to be heated.
I am not a pro. however I get 1.8 -1.9 60ft when I do a good burn out.
I have the V6 and even when I avoid the water I still spin so I can only assume with a SS you will def sin the P zeros. I know this will eat the tires but if you want to play you have to pay. Hope to see you for Black Friday.

Thanks for the suggestions. I dropped my air to about 31. I hadn't ran in about 10 years. Every time I used to run, a few pounds did it because it was 95, hot and sticky out. So, experience on the slate definitely helps to know year round stuff like that.

I cleared up the burnout problem. The next morning, I went right down to an area off Winslow Road in Williamstown and did 3 burnouts. The first was huge. LOL. It left a trail that another car had to slow down and drive around it. I was laughing in the car. But anyway, I just had to get to know the car (off the track) and get the burnout out of the way.

I should be good. Everyone can root for me on Black Friday at ATCO to pull off a run without a spinout. Maybe I'll hit 12. HDRS, I crossed at 108, but I didn't get a 12.7! I guess I could though...... We'll see..

Yep just a BABY V6........no spray for me. I just turned a 13.783 @ 103.40 at Lapeer Dragway today.

Cool thing about this track is that you cannot go into the water if you have street tires. They want you to drive around it and they don't back you into the water unless you have drag radials or slicks. Not the best for track prep however.
