Race Fuel
Right now I have the Vortech V3 with canned tune on a LS3 pushing 525 WHP, what if any gains would I see by filling up with some 100, 105 octane fuel? Any changes to the car need to be made?

Unless you plan to add timing to your tune then you are basically wasting your money on expensive fuel.

Depending on your driving habits and budget, you can see great benefits from running race fuel. I only run VP MS109 race fuel which is an oxygenated fuel and really allows me to see results with a specific race fuel tune. For majority of people this just isnt economical but I am only focused on extreme performance as I am an adrenaline junkie and my build isnt the normal modifications but race fuel does have its advantages and did I mention SMELL of race fuel? LOL

For street driving only, do not waste your money. For a day at the track, a few gallons of 104 added to your tank can help in preventing the ECM from pulling timing when moderate detonation occurs because of running let's call it "stale or deficient fuel that has some lesser octane characteristics". By preventing the ECM from pulling timing, you are in essence gaining performance you otherwise would have lost.

![]() But yeah, all these guys have great advice. Race fuel/octane is only necessary if you are going to run aggressive timing or higher than normal boost levels. Contrary to popular belief if you don't change your engine parameters you will actually LOSE horsepower running race fuel. My friends at C5Fest did that when they put in a bunch of 110 octane bought from SGMP between rounds but ended up not having enough time to go back to the pits and bump the timing. They slowed from an 11.1 to an 11.3. Oops.
