Most places that sell remote starts for sticks should show you to not leave the vehicle in gear. I had a CompuStar remote start in a 3000GT I had and it worked great. You HAD to shut the car down in a very specific sequence (including leaving it in neutral) for it to even work. I will never buy a different brand of starter, those have been in all my vehicles.

+1, I don't' know who installed the guy in the video's starter but the ones for manuals have an arming sequence, so they probably skipped that part on the install. You have to be in neutral, set the park brake and arm it before the start button will work.

I didn't watch the video becasue I'm at work, but it IS possible if you don't install it right, that if you leave it in gear and no hand brake. The starter will spin the flywheel and if it's in gear it'll turn the transmission too and just drive you forward on the power of the starter. The engine wouldn't even have to be running.

It was installed correctly just the guy admitted he bypassed the neutral safety switch against all advice to do it, uninstalled the remote start kill switch against all advice to do it, and didn't tell the dealer it was installed.

I'd file that under the improperly installed column

A remote starter on a manual requires a manual remote starter. Most aftermarket remote out here works on both auto and manual, only the installation is different. When properly installed, it is very safe. And I know what I'm talking about because this is what I do (and been doing for the last 12 years). The most complicated part is for the alarm and transponder bypass. There's only 1 module that works in the '10 and '11 that I'm aware of (for now). I would recommend you get a pro to install it. here's a link for the bypass module
http://ifar.ca/en/vehicles/chevrolet/camaro/2010/

If anyone would like some help on this, pm me and it will be a pleasure helping you.

question. If the manual tranny is in gear and you hit remote start, I am assuming it has a safety feature that won't let it "try" to start?

you need to engage the handbrake, put vehicle in neutral, activate the remote starter, remove the key( by this time, the car will still be running), then you get out, close the doors and turn the car off with the remote. Then the remote starter is in ready mode and will be watching that no doors are open to make sure the car stays in neutral. I you ever open a door before remote-starting the car, the ready mode will be canceled.

Ah yes --

..........reminds me of an episode at TLWFB's Dealership.......

Customer came in a few years back and wanted an Aveo -- but she was adamant that it must have a manual transmission - and it MUST have a remote start.......

sooooooooo.. TLW sent it out and had the remote start put on it.......

.......had the Aveo all nice and clean in front of the showroom -- facing Route 8 --

.......so the Salesperson pushes the "start" button......and assumed that it was in neutral -- or assumed that it had a lockout - whatever.........

......so at 4:30 in the afternoon - with LOTS of traffic on Route 8 (four lane highway) -- the Aveo 'jumps to it '--

(think of it as 'squeaking to life'....)

.....and heads across all four lanes (kamikaze??) into TLW's Used Car department.........

BY THE GRACE OF GOD...........

.................it did not hit anything on Route 8 (....but you should have heard the screeching of brakes and blowing of horns and many bad words said...)

.........it then propelled itself into a Malibu

.......and THEN into a Trans Am

(...send the Black suburbans after the Aveo, please.....)

The customer, naturally, did not want a new car that had just committed suicide by throwing itself into a few cars.........

So - TLWFB - being the good guy that he is - and trying to keep the very disappointed customer happy.....

....... LOANED the customer a different Aveo until he could find another Aveo just like the one that committed suicide.......

...........which was a really nice gesture -

.
.

..............except that the customer wrecked the Loaned Aveo that night -

( ....did I mention that she totalled it......????)

Two Totalled Aveos in one day....................

Ahhhhhhh.........

................................Good times.................:facepal m:

Moral of the Story: DON'T DO THAT..............
