Uh..not quite. There's a difference between winning best overall car and straight line speed. The Camaro V8 is faster.

well, the mustang is lighter handles better, and is faster in a straight line its been proven and has better gearing more aggressive . idk how this is still debatable by people. and the mustang has more then 412 HP it is under rated

and the v6 mustang has the same HP as the v6 camaro and the v6 mustang is lighter... how does that not make sense to you.

i love my camaro, i am not hating on it.. but i am not going to be some biased chevy owner

Ok.... stop reading motortrend.... that's the first thing, second, go to the track and watch.... they are consistent 13.2 cars... even being lighter, handle better, and proclaimed 436 HP or whatever, they still run the exact same times or slower than the Camaro.

So factor all those in... the Camaro is faster all the way around. Make the Camaro mirror the weight, handling, and 10 more HP and see who wins!!???

The V8 model Mustang may certainly be lighter and handle better, however the on track shoot out between it and the Camaro consistantly showed the Camaro making up ground or pulling ahead in straightaway's. Also, the V6 Mustang has 305 hp not 312 like the Camaro. Minimal difference, I admit, however it is wrong to say they are the same.

Someone bought into the 5.0 hype. I have yet to see the production cars mirror the times of the early RINGERS released by ford. The 5.0 is not some end all be all engine..
Plus mustangs look like sh....

The LS3 Manual requires a very skilled driver to run fast times.

What did he run at the track (60', 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile, trap speed)? That's the only way to know if he had a good run.

Lots of guys run crappy times (especially in LS3 M6s), because they can't drive all that well.

With average to below average drivers behind the wheel, an automatic has a nice advantage.

all the tests i've seen show the mustang is very fast down low...particularly with 3.73 gears...BUT.. they also say the SS's huge LS3 picks up steam. So it should be a dead heat at the end of a quarter.

It's been proven? Where, youtube? Mustang is lighter, handles better. It's also more dainty, and apparently has a thinner steering wheel that fits better in women's hands.

However, it's not faster than Camaro LS3 in a straight line.

There are aftermarket gear packages for Camaro that will blow the mustang away off the line. But stock for stock, 250lbs less weight isn't enough to counter the 426/420 of the LS3.

Youtube vids often show an L99 being whooped, or a 5.0 with optional factory gearing upgrade, but the base 5.0 cannot stay with a LS3 (driver's equal).

Check out how the ford is geared. You can see below how it runs out of 1st gear pretty quickly (2.5 second mark), while chevy carries first a bit longer. That was designed on purpose to compete with the monster LS3 off the line.

What shocked me today was I saw in Motor Trend that the Camaro v6 actually went faster 0-60 than the Mustang v6. I think the camaro got a 6.1 and the mustang a 6.2. I had to look at it twice to make sure I wasn't going crazy. This was in the newest issue I think.

Roadandtrack.com put the Mustang V6 faster around a track (139.6 vs 141.2 sec), BUT... the mustang included $2,000 of factory track upgrades (not offered on Camaro), bringing mustang's price to $3000 more overall.

But none of that $2000 in extras had anything to do with 0-60 times, which the mustang clearly wins: 5.4 to 5.9 seconds. Half a second is half a second any way you cut it. A clear win. It seems 290 lbs lighter with the same power and torque will do that.
