So I get pulled over...
so I get pulled over by a state trooper just outside of El Paso while driving to Arizona. To make a long story short, I saw him on the other side to the highway with someone else pulled over. I was coming near them when he pulled thru the median. I was doing the speed limit but he pulled me over for having a tinted cover over my rear plate. So he runs my drivers license over the radio and decides to give me a warning..funny thing is that the slip that he gave me had the info of the previous person he pulled over. The only information of mine it had on it was BF= Black Female, my birthdate, and my infraction. I wonder if this infraction was actually pinned to me. Ive had that cover on my car since ive lived in texas and had no issues with cops over it. Thoughts?

Pretty minor stuff... and a warning at that... Toss it in the trash and enjoy the rest of your trip... They don't stay on your record anyway...

Its a new law that has been on the books now for about 6 years. You cannot have anything covering your front or rear plate in Texas the obscures the plate number, this includes tinted covers. Texas also just put into law that the front plate has to be on the front of the car so no more putting it on the dash.

From the mile marker 60 to 20, you may see as many as 15 troopers working and pulling over about anything they can. It is part of the solution to the drug and violence in Mexico. They really just want to see who is driving and feel them out for drugs or money, rarely write tickets unless speeding 5 over.
I got 7 warnings in the first week I got my Camaro, now they dont mess with me much.

illegal to have anything, even a clear cover, over the characters of the license plate in texas.
Just from my experience most cops don't care...now dept of safety, state troopers, etc do care. I've driven for 10yrs w/o front license plate and got pulled over by dept of safety officer for no front license plate. |

I think it says you can't have anything covering any portion of the plate, like the frames with the dealer names that partially obscure the state name. Another law to protect the toll road operators by outlawing anything that could interfere with their cameras...

Hello!
|
I was out that way last year and was pulled over too...for going 3 over!
I also got a warning...but I was asked if everyone in the car was American citizens. It's pretty normal out that way from what I've heard. |

Makes you wonder how many foreign exchange students drive 2010 or 2011 Camaro's...

It was a warning, so don't worry about it.
The cover IS ILLEGAL. Period. So, if you don't want a ticket, get rid of it. You are giving officers a perfectly good reason to pull you over. |
