Apparently the dealer is small class and doesn't know anything or what he is talking about... Or is a con artist trying to rip people off.
I'd find a different dealer within 100 miles.. and just go with them. No reason to waste time with him, sounds like he has no clue.

Thank you all for your advice. I may post the dealer name after seeing what happens on Monday. The reason I'm so unsure about moving is because I'm their #1 allocation, but if they don't lower, I'm definitely asking for my deposit.

MSRP dealers
I traveled 38 miles today past 6 dealers to visit the Chevrolet from the list of good dealers. arrived and in 30 miutes had my order at MSRP with $500.00 depost and no hassle. pleced 6 out of 22 alocated but #2 LT of 6
no one should put up with the over MSRP ripoff dealers and remenber them in the future as I will, since I buy several car a year for the company and will never go to them again. Lucky for me there are to many Houston, Tx Dealers the biger the worst they are. If there is a black list, I would be more than happy to list them. I happen to just recived a new car servey from GM yesterday from my last pruchased 3 week ago at Parkway Chevrolet in Tomball and i'll make sure GM knows of this Dealer I bought a Traverse and would not sell camaro under 5K over MSRP second car in 6 months. As per the owner and general sales MGR. FAF |

Once you have the cash back, then you can re-negotiate with another dealer. I strongly urge you not to stay at the same dealer, cause all it will do is encourage them to poke someone else in the future. Remember, a dealer makes money if they sell you a car at Dealer Invoice price...there is a "holdback" that GM builds into the price the dealer agrees to pay for a car that then results in a check from GM to the Dealer when the car is sold. Anything you pay above Dealer Invoice is pure profit for the dealer, so even MSRP isn't a great deal when you consider that Invoice is sometimes $4000 or more above the Invoice. In these turbulent economic times, most dealers will be willing to negotiate with a savy consumer and plan on making their MSRP profits off the next uninformed customer. The Demand for the Camaro changes the equation, but I think if you are patient and ready to walk away from any deal, you do much better than $10000 above MSRP.

I stand corrected. Unfortunately, holdback is tied to the value of a car and in these tough economic times, dealers take a hit because it's the cheaper cars that are selling. Also the volume of car sales is much lower these days.
