should i keep my 1997 honda prelude ( 5 spd manual, fwd 195hp 0-60 6.8) with 115,000 miles and 28 mpg highway and 20 mg city. very reliable car and drives very good and is in good condition. Drive it to work (30 mile trip back and fourth) and have the SS Camaro as a weekend car whenever i go out and to show the ladies some fun.

or should i sell the prelude (worth about $5500 according to kbb, but can probably only get $4,000 right now due to the economic crisis) and put it as a down payment for the Camaro SS.

the prelude is paid off since 2005 because i bought it cash as my first car and all i pay is $65 for liability insurance. Of course the Camaro would get full coverage from state farm.

what would you do if you were in my shoes?
Truthfully, I think you ought to consider getting a fully loaded 2LT! You could sell your other one to eliminate the added expense of two cars, and still get great gas mileage with this one. As far as the chicks go, V6 or V8 isn't going to make any difference with them...they're gonna love it!!! And if your dates all work out the WAY YOU'RE PLANNING 'EM TO, you're not going to be spending all that much time in the car anyway!!!!!!!!

Yep, this way you save money and still have a STUDMOBILE!!!

Well, the way I figure it if I get the car when i'm planning on getting it around the middle to end of may I have myself about six months to save up for a beater to drive in the winter. I know I could technicaly get a winter car for a couple hundred meesly bucks but I would at least like to drop a grand on one so I know it will be some what reliable. It will be a daily cruiser in the spring and summer but under NO circumstances will be driven in the winter. I am going to take it out JUST ONCE the first winter just to see how she handles in the snow. I think it will be interesting to find that out. Then of course give her the longest bath of her life and back to the warm snuggley garage blanketed over till april.

if i have to sell the truck (not like i'd get much for it anyway), it'll definitely be the DD, but i doubt i could live without having the usefulness of the truck, so it'll probably be the extra toy.

I have 3 fairly new cars - all paid for - and this one is going in the garage.... although, I bet I'll drive it from time to time
if my parents did that, i might've gotten the 84 Z28

2010 will be a fair weather summer time pleasure cruiser...just like the 02 35th LE. I do drive the 97 AE SS a lot in the summer. I have other vehicles to drive in winter and bad weather.

DD from April 1- December 1. I'll bet that 23 mpg highway is a very very conservative guess. The 4th gen V8's were able to pull close to 30 so I would guess 27-28 highway would not be out of the question.

I hate to say it but the only way you will see 23 mpg with the V8 is if you roll out of your driveway onto the expressway and keep it at 60 mph. If you have the V8 you want to feel the power. Most will see 17 mpg. I have a 06 Civic and it’s rated at 35 mpg highway. I drive 60/40 hw/city and I get 26 - 29 mpg. If I keep the rpms under 3K I get in the low 30s but I need to run the civic above 3k to make it move.

Many Corvette drivers report 30mpg consistantly. Being that the Camaro's less aerodynamic, I fully expect to be getting ~26 regularly on the highway. That's the beauty of the the Chevy Small block.
