It gives the SS a more muscular look to it. I hate that its not functional at all, But love that its there. The V6 just doesn't look right with out it theres too much room Empty from the top of the Grill opening to where the hood starts.

I love it, but its kind of lame one of the defining SS characteristics is fake.

They could have at least left it open, even if the main flow is through the bottom.

For a dummy like me, it lets me know if I am looking at a 6 or a 8. The only other way I can tell them apart is If I can hear them driving away. I like the mail slot.

without that fake scoop/mail slot it would be tough to differentiate between SS and V6 (besides little SS logo in bottom right of grill, of course) i use the mail slot as to find what the engine is.

edit: HAHAHAH I just read the post above me

Doesn't bother me at all.

Are the big hips functional? Is the reverse mohawk functional?

Totally agreed on that.
Plus, kinda gives a visual hint of who you are dealing with, vs.the V6

How does that change what it is now?

It was left there for cosmetics.

I can't really see someone saying "Wow, that mail slot looks cool"

Ya, but it was designed to be functional.

"Oh, well in that case, it looks like crap"

Bottom line is it is there to LOOK good. JUST like the nonfunctional stuff.
