We have a long way to go to catch the mustang in total sales. If you remember they beat us so bad that GM had to quit building the camaro and trans am. They never stopped building mustangs. So really they are still way ahead. That's why we all see them around every corner.

went to look at a new truck for my pop's yesterday. sat in the GT500.
the seat was horable. guages not user frendly. and the price 55k+10K=65k

they are nutts. 500HP. yea my camaro has that now at the motor.Dang near stock.
as for money.32k for my car 10k in mods and for 42k or so it would have over 700 HP at the motor.you do the math.

not to mention I love the camaro.so i may be a bit bias...

Now that GM isn't splitting it's resources between Pontiac and Chevrolet they can focus on one good muscle car and keep Ford in it's proper place.
IMO part of what went wrong in GM is that they splintered too much and set brand against brand. Why make a Cadillac model of a GMC truck? GM, it's like cutting off your nose to spite your face! Why have a Camaro and a Firebird? They ended up looking so much alike, why bother?
Why make a Chevy truck? Why not just focus on making a higher and lower end GMC truck product good enough quality that a Caddy owner would want one? Offer a lower end model without all the bells and whistles for lower end truck needs.
Keep Cadillac a rich man's luxury car and let Chevrolet focus on the sport and lower end passenger car market with Camaro and Corvette and Malibu/Cruze/Impala? Don't try to make a Cruzillac, Cadvette or Cadaro.
Let GMC brand name focus on trucks, suburbans, Avalanche and Equinox.
I guess this is why I'm not running GM though. Blurring brands all together just didn't make sense to me and if I ran GM it would have stopped years ago.

It was fun seeing that story on TV this morning. You better recognize world! Camaro is #1. Congrats to Chevy & the Oshawa Team (& us for having the good taste to choose the best muscle car).

There are also ways to spin any of these stories too

Camaro sales down 26% from December 09-December 10
Mustang Sales Down 14%
Challenger Sales Up 31%

Lets hope the Camaro can reverse its downward trend!

You've demonstrated your point, LOL. Considering a ragtop is on the way, and the time of year, I'm not too surprised. As long as the trend is CAMARO is selling enough to make GM happy, I'm feeling good, personally. I'm sure a little spike for the Chally' will be there, too, once the new one comes with it's changes and improvements. The point is: CAMARO sales are where I think a lot of people have been hoping them to be. I forsee sales going up once the season changes, ragtops start leaving, and we see Z28 arrive.

Maybe...but the spinning is quickly stopped with a mild fact-checking.

75% -- that's the amount of 2009 the Camaro was on sale amid a STRONG initial rush of buyers. That invalidates any comparison to 2009.

10,000 cars. That's the number of Camaros people bought more than Mustangs in 2010.

This is great news for the Camaro. Many people here cited that there were too many Mustangs on the road, and that swayed them toward the Camaro - now these same people can join the masses!

That is one way of looking at it, here is another...
2009 total Camaro sales over an 8 month period: 61,618
2010 total Camaro sales over a 12 month period: 81,299
Thats a 24.2% increase in sales.... but....
the average monthly sales of the Camaro in 2009 were around 7500 per month (quick math). May was a bad month due to shortages and shipping so close to 8000 per month would have been possible.

If GM offered the Camaro for a full 12 months in 2009 at the higher demand, that would have been an estimated extra 30,000 Camaros (@7500) or 91,000 sold for 2009... that means sales have dropped this year over a full 12 months around 11%. That means GM only had to sell 5000 units (which would be the worst sales month 4 times over) a month, the first 4 months in '09 to have a 0% increase in sales.

On the other hand, the Mustang sales last year were 66,623 vs this years 73,716 which is over 10% increase in sales.

But none of that really matters, only 70.5% of the MY10 Camaros produced were actually sold over a 14 month MY. A very large majority of the 76k est* MY10 Mustangs were sold and only an estimated 3-5% remained on the lots as MY11 opened, and most likely were sold throughout the cash back season.

Units sold, yeah, Camaro won by 8000.. Profit, Profit volume, Production vs Sales and Sales Trend.. No.... Its a classic "look at my shiny watch" while misdirecting you away from the fact... Ford didn't seem upset, after 24 years... I wouldn't be either...
