Has anybody tried to see if the 17" Racestar's will clear the rear brakes like the 17" Bogart's?
The 18" C6 Z06 wheels would work, but you have to add in the expense factor. Be foolish to run a sticky tire without upgrading axles. ( not saying you can't, but why tempt it? ) By the time you're done with axles, wheels and tires you could be looking at $3500-$4000.

As more time passes, more cost effective options will roll out for the car...then more of us will make the jump.

20" wheels are standard equipment on all SS Camaros.

YA wheels are a big problem with this car, GM really blew it with that! I love the car but they should have considered that allot of us want drag setups! BigDan has a point, If I could buy 16-18' drag wheels that dont cost a freaking arm and a leg, that would be my first mod! So I am holding out and hopping that someone steps up and makes some! A set of headers, cold air, and a drag wheel setup would easily put the camaro in the 11s with a good driver.

You could always do a V6 rear brake swap to allow the use of smaller and cheaper wheels and tires. My 2011 GT500 has tiny rear brakes and it does just fine with them and even if I spent $2,500 on the Bear 6s for my rear there wouldn't be any improvement in my 60-0, so unless you are out every weekend beating up the road course I don't think it will effect the Camaro that much. Has anybody done a Brembo vs V6 rear comparison?

I think (not sure) the v6 calipers can swap over without issue. I have the Nittos on my factory rims but i haven't been able to run it since the unusual winter storms we're having has pretty much closed all the tracks.

Big Dan, what did you run the other night? or did you?

I'd thought about doing that, but once I get my car where I want it I want to autocross it and I figure the Brembos would be much better for that application. I'd love to run my car at Sacramento as well, but I'm more interested in autocrossing it. One day I'll have my car to where I want it.

What did you run last Friday?

I haven't argued any point about the SS being faster or the 5.0 being slower..... what i've said is............ These f'n cars don't CONSISTANTLY run posted magazine times..... then it turned off to be something involving the GT500??? and now its something to do with a sub shop and somebody shittin in their pants or on a seat?!?!?.... I was just saying I haven't seen WITH MY OWN 2 EYES either one of these cars run remotely close to posted magazine times or what ppl are saying about putting DR's on and a tune and running low 11's.

I was driving home in that mess, it was a nightmare, too many fools dont know how to drive in the snow, although the solid ice that covered the ground didnt help any lol. I was in 2nd the whole way home.

well see i got lucky. lol to test drive the 5.0 mustang and the camaro ss back to back and both automatic.
i was at a driving event where you were able to smash on it off the line but with tc on and all that bs.
my point or opinion is the camaro actually chirped the wheels where as the mustang well yeah i heard nothing.

but the mustang does have good numbers and i am not a ford fan but this new 5.0 is very impressive. but again i believe its a drivers race

There is plenty of enough power in these car's to and your biggest and cheapest mod is traction. Most stock GT500's pick up over a full second in there ET with a simple DR swap and leave the $80k 750hp Supersnakes in the rear view at the track. Why spend money to make more hp when your factory tires cant even hook up factory power. All that money will literally go up in a cloud of smoke when ever you try to put that power down.
Man...I wasnt mad about anything to do with the mustang etc. I was ticked at someone posting a vid of a 13.6 @ 103 and calling out camaros with it.

I am building this car the right way.

I built my 98 backwards and ended up in a tree. Heads and Cam and full bolt ons with street tires and stock suspension on a 3300 lb car (no option) was squirly to say the least.

I am waiting for a cheap 17 inch rim option. Not wasting my time with the 18's when the few people who have tried the 17's put up PHENOMENAL numbers compared to the larger diameter etc.

When a reasonable 17 inch rim option becomes available I will likely get them with some slicks for the track. (along with some axles and 4.10 gears eventually)

What race star 17 inch rims are you talking about in the other post?

The bogarts were made just for the camaro I think. Last time I knew back in October Texas-Speed said they were working on a 17 inch rim option.

In the mean time lets see what I can do with the current set up. I think I am just about done with mods for a little while. Dont need to spend any more money right now.

Oh...and removing the brembos is not an option. These brakes are phenomenal.

Their 17's fit over the SRT-8 rear Brembo's so they might also fit over the SS rear.

When I got about 5 miles away from the track on Grant Line road I opened it up when it was safe and discovered a problem with my tune. At 5700 rpm the computer was telling the TB to close so I drove it over to my tuner at AED in Cameron Park. We did a few data logs and found out that it was going into a different torque table which was commanding the TB to close at 5700. We increased all the torque levels and its still doing it so he is calling around to find a solution. Starting in MY 2011 Ford gave their GT500's a far more advanced computer capable of monitoring and adjusting all sorts of parameters and its been a PITA for tuner's to figure out since the computer has so many built in safe guards and is always trying to cut power and throw a code.

I wasn't too bumed out because conditions were poor due to heavy fog, cold temp's and my buddy who was waiting for me there said he only saw a few car's running so the track surface temp was probably low as well.

I cant wait until we get this all figured because after closely examining my dyno sheet it looks like its always been colsing at 5700 so I'm looking forward to all the increased horsepower that was left on the table from 5700-6700 rpm since the new 2011 GT500's got the Ford GT cam's which make peak hp at red line and I was expecting a little more hp from my mods so this explains where my hp went.
