Yep without a catch can imagine what kind of mess the engine would eventually be in. Be sure to let us know how things turn out.

It's good to know the excess oil did not cause any issues.

Sadly I agree. 3/4 of a can at 300 miles is way more than mine was. I drained mine yesterday with about 700 miles and only got about a tablespoon.

My question is. Can I hold off for a few months having the can in place before I get it in to the dealer? Just have to keep up on emptying it and adding oil. Is there any other adverse effects with this problem?

Keep track of the miles and save all of the oil, so you can show them how bad it really is. I'm no mechanic, but as long as you have the can in place, I think it should be fine. iirc I already had 3400 miles on my car before installing my first catch.

I had posted the start of another thread relative to black smoke on a cold start. I was also experiencing the lifter tapping issue. Car is a daily driver that lives in the driveway (cold climate) 2011 SS/RS L99 with 10,000 kms. Just got the car back from the dealer and they did the lifter swap but it was still smoking on cold start. Dealer discovered another reported issue ( no TSB though apparently ) regarding an updated Valve Rocker arm Cover - Left Side- part # 12570427 and PCV tube- part # 12617239. Perhaps this would explain why so many are installing Oil Catch cans ! These new parts are on order.

I think I saw your thread. I took my oil cap off and disconnected the fresh air PCV line from the intake duct and blew through it. Air flowed from the hose and came out the oil fill hole completely unstricted so my valve cover is good. Your information is definitely something people should check to make sure it's not blocked.

Going Monday to hopefully get my issue fixed! My elite was 3/4 way full this time with only around 400 miles, compared to the 7 or 800 miles from the last time!

Took car to dealer today, for transmission work, and while I was there I took my bottle that was 3/4 full, and my mileage upon emptying the catch can and this is what I got!

GM states that the car is allowed a loss of 1 Quart of oil every 2000 miles before any warranty type work can be looked into.

He said if it gets worse or get more than a quart in less than 2000 miles to bring it back in...
