Thumbs up Love Dealership Games When Buying Used Cars...

First off, the "boss" nixed my 2nd Camaro. So we're looking for something else.

I love to argue a car deal; used or new. I'm flat out... my way or the highway.

I traded in my '07 Monte Carlo SS custom "Intimidator" for my '11 Camaro 2SS back in September of '10.

The wife and I were looking at getting a new Chevy Cruze(love the Cruze, great car) for a 3rd car/work car for me to replace my aging '99 Century, "Walter".

We drove by one of the dealerships(not my normal dealership) here and guess what I saw???

My 2006 Monte Carlo SS custom "Intimidator"!!!

This is the car I traded in back in '08 on a Cobalt Sport when gas was predicted to go to nearly $10/gallon. I saw it a year later and the woman that bought it put these nasty, a** vinyl decals down each side. UGH!!! I offered her $19K on the spot for it then. She refused.

Anyway, the "boss" said I could get her back. She's got a few rock chips here and there, but nothing major. She does have 47K miles now instead of 7800 like when I traded her in. BUT she is a GM Certified used vehicle. They offered to take those nasty, a** graphics off, replace the front ground effects, fix the rust spot in the left rear wheel well, and put new Goodyear Eagle GT's on it. I told them I'd have to think about it. They want $1800 over book value and I'm offering $1000 under book value. I left the dealership.

Anyway, they called me back to the dealership a few hours later to give me the "song and dance" routine.

I told them flat out, "This is what I'll pay and this is what you'll give me for my trade-in. It's either my way or I walk out and go buy the Cruze."

They "low-balled" on my trade-in, but dropped the the price to $15,500(still over book and was better than the original $16,899 they orginally wanted). They agreed to fix the rust, replace the cracked front ground effect, new tires, etc. etc. You know the deal, they promise you the world, but won't go any lower on the price.

I told them I knew for a fact they didn't give $14,500 for it on the trade-in and that price was what I got for it 3 years ago when I traded it in. They went on about "being in it" for more than that.

Again, I told them "This is what I'll pay and this is what you'll give me for my trade-in. It's either my way or I walk out and go buy the Cruze."

I told them when they wanted to sell the car to call me and I walked.

I can get a new car for the price they're charging for my Monte. As much as I love that car and wish it was back home, I'm not paying $15,500 for it and have only a 1 year warranty when I can get a new car with better mileage and a full warranty.

Heck, I still have my 400 hp, '11 Camaro 2SS to play with. My Monte was going to be my daily driver, work car, and winter car.

I'm win either way.

Here's some pics of my old '06 Monte before and after I owned it...

The '06 and '07 Monte Carlo SS's have the 5.3L, 303 HP V-8 with displacement on demand.

They're snappy. I loved mine and kick myself every day that I ever got rid of them.

That V-8 would get me 31.5 mpg's in both mine before they started putting ethanol in the 91+ octane here. After the ethanol started being put in, I was getting 28.5 mpg's.

Let the Camaro LT & LS fan boys start flaming, but I'd stack either of my old Monte Carlo SS's up against the Camaro LT's and LS's any day.

Well this comment was unnecessary. Why would the v6's guys flame anything?

Was going to wish you good luck in getting your old car back, but now i can give a rats ass.

I am 100% the exact same way, if you're refering to Rydell i hope they are ready for another one.

He wanted to know how much power they had, so I compared them to the LT's and LS's.

Not saying I don't love the LT's and LS's. My 2nd one was going to be one of them until the "boss" changed my plans.

Not referring to Rydell. It's another dealership here in the Cedar Valley who thinks every car they get in used is made of gold and charges as much.

Rydell is my "home" dealership. NEVER had a problem with them. Went to the other one just to check out what shape my old baby was in and possibly make an offer. But so far, things didn't go their way and they can keep her.

well i thought your comparison was a compliment to the new v6's. since the hp output is more than your old v8. That's why i wondered why any v6 owner would give you any flack.

Some owners get offended when you say anything can be out up against their cars.

I too consider it a compliment as well for the V-6 Camaro's that they can compete with a V-8.

I read the full length of your post, but can't reconcile these two statements.

As I read it, your wife makes your car buying decisions for you, and you enjoy giving your hard earned money to other men. It's so bad that you are willing to be taken advantage of for a 2nd time...on a car you already owned...

Let it go, man...Some old lady already vandalized that thing, and you got rid of it for a reason.
