lol price won't be an option...I should be saving my money for investments or the sort...but I'm willing to just pay cash for it, I hate car loans....or I may do a loan for it...pay it for 6 months and then pay it off....improve my credit score a bit :P |

I wouldn't worry about it. You have to take into account that the special paint job probably accounts for a huge part of that price tag, then figure in that this is also a very limited edition (3 cars) model and that it'll probably have every option possible. So actually 40k isn't really that bad a price.

I'm surprised you would still consider buying one if the base model started at $40K. Also, if you have to adjust financing options to afford the car, you can't afford the car. Good advice I've heard is if you can't finance a new car on a 3 year loan, you can't afford it, and you end up paying extravagant amounts of interest in the end. (This rule doesn't apply for a true 6 year 0% financing special of course. Just make sure it is really 0% for the full term and you don't get hit with a major interest hit on the last payment.) I'm capping the price of my Camaro at $35K (adjustable only in the case that I am paid dramatically more than I'm expecting within the next few years) and won't buy until I can put at least $15-$20K down.

Yeah, pretty much if it's $40,000 base price, no Camaro for me. :( But I seriously don't think that is right. GM isn't crazy enough to make the prices so drastically out of reach for so many people that REALLY want the car. Espeecially since that's how they "killed off" the Camaro in '02!

well...
As much as I'd hate to say it....if the BASE price is 40k which I highly doubt it would be....but if they decide to make the Camaro all highly expensive and stuff...I'll first cry, then maybe just buy a slightly used Vette or Caddy XLR until they decide to bring the price down a bit.....if I'm paying over 40K on ANYTHING it better have at least 450+ HP.
With that being said, if they decide to make a special edition, mean mamma jamma Camaro and it's over 40K, I'd reconsider. I'd pay the extra dough for a 450+ HP Camaro.

Seriously that's probably a $5000 paint job plus the custom features. No way chevy would put the price point that close the corvette... hell i'd buy a corvette!
besides this has already been discussed. It will be COMPARABLE to a MUSTANG!

Yeah, this is just speculation, rough conjecture off the cuff, but I'd say that if a very limited custom Bumblebee edition is valued at $40,000 then I'd imagine a decently equipped V8 model (maybe not the top V8 though) could be had for around $30,000 or so, before dealer markups. Very encouraging indeed!

5 years is the average length of a car loan, and the best guage of affordability imo. 6 is pretty common, but a little too long really. 7 and even 8 year loans are gaining popularity. I'd NEVER do 7 or 8. That's nuts. |

But I agree with you it will be comparable to the mustang in price at equivalent trim levels.

I agree with you. Who ever thought up the idea to go for a 6-8 year car loan
must've got a real nice bonus for that scam. I've always went four years and either paid'em off on time or a few months to a year early. If you need longer then that, then you shouldn't be going for a new car at this time, work your way up to it. On my Camaro, I plan to pay atleast half or more down, then just go for a three year loan just to keep credit rating high. Quote:

you guys are funny, I know I'm new here but this is the NEW camaro you are talking about. If all that stands between me and a new camaro is one more year of payments then I've got 4 words for you "Where do I sign?"

I'm as much a Camaro fan as anybody, but I'm also a realist. That Camaro will be much more fun if I wait an extra year and pay less than if I buy it right away and spend the next few years staying up at night freaking out about how I'm going to pay the bills. Of course, credit companies love people like you ^ because they make a killing off of all the extra interest you're willing to pay. Me, I'd rather see more of my payment going to pay off the principle, and have the thing paid off very soon after I get it, so I can enjoy it for many years without worrying about payments or interest. Plus by waiting I might be able to avoid the worst of the dealer price-gouging.
