But then again...knowing they are not uni-directional, they however are asymmetrical. Common sense would dictate that grip must change if you change the direction? I can't shake that feeling...someone smarter than me should know.

I'd take it back ASAP and get them to put them back the way they were and find out why they did un-authorized work very poorly. Could be a rookie mechanic- wouldn't want him screwing up other cars.

1) The rotated the tires w/o your authorization
2) That they didn't reset the sensors (cmon, they should have known to do that)
No Doubt. I'd be ticked off!

Yeah they totally should have reset the TPMS when they did that, it's a pain for a consumer to do it at home because you've got to actually air up the tires, or let some air out and then air them up... Like the others have said, the tires are non-directional, and Pirelli claims that the S mark in the tread is simply to reduce tire road noise, so grip is not compromised by swapping the tires. It's no bad thing that they swapped them but you definitely have reason to be irked that they didn't at least finish the job.

They should of done a Re-Learn on the sensors. But you're not even supposed to rotate the tires on a vehicle with a staggered setup they should of known that.

I intend to do this in the Spring. After 10,000 miles, it's overdue.

But, the owner's manual says not to swap side to side unless all four tires are the same size. My dealership says NO way to swapping front to front and rear to rear with the Pirelli's.. Just sayin..

Why not? If you swap side to side, the direction of the tread pattern is unchanged on each side., but you even out the wear from braking to the opposite edges of the sipes.

The dealer is clueless.

It's sounding like it won't hurt the grip/wear but I'm gonna take it back...my car this weekend has developed a grinding noise during low speed turns, which I see others have experienced.

Swapping side to side makes no sense to me. It sounds like the dealer did that though, apparently they relearned the rear sensors but not the front. Its not hard to do, just do it where you have access to air.

I swap mine X and H patterns! Bought 2 extra 9" w/275's and now its not a problem. Even got a 8" w/245 as a spare!

That whole staggered thing Chevy uses is crap! Put the same size wheel and tire on the front and back and be done with it - IMHO. Also (word to chevy), put a real spare tire in the trunk, and place the battery under the hood where it belongs. A can of fix-a-flat...... what's next, run-flat goo in the tires?

Do you have P-Zeros?

Go take a look at your tires. If you have more than, say, 6,000 miles on them you will see slight feathering. Swapping side to side allows each tire to feather on the opposite side of the sipe as before.
