The V6/As has a completly smaller differential housing with 3.27 ratio. all the other models V6?M6, V8/A6,V8/M6 Have the same differential housing physically, The V6/M6 and the V8/A6 have a 3.27 gear ratio also but the V8/M6 has 3.45 gear ratio. To get posi in the V6/A6 swap out the half shaft from a V8 and the complete diferential from a V6/M6 or V8/A6 ( same gear ratio no speedo tune needed.) if you use a diff from a V8/M6 you will need to have the speedo sycronized to accomodate the different gear ratio. but will give ya a little more kick ...

I believe the hubs are also larger to handle the larger axles.

Our differential is "open" meaning all things equal, equal torque is applied to both tires. The cars will easily spin both tires assuming both sides have about the same amount friction to the pavement. That said - either tire can do a single tire burnout, just depends on the friction.
I think the A6 has an open and not a LSD beacoause they are better handling in the snow.

Sorry, I did not clarify that I meant the V6 with the automatic transmission. Unfortunately I cannot get the manual transmission as my wife will be driving the car and she can't/won't drive a stick. I'm not interested in doing burnouts, I am interested in all-around good traction in all types of weather. Thanks for the reply's guys and gals. And thank you to DAL123 for clarifying how one can go about adding a LSD in the future. |
