Ill be going to the track this spring when Milan opens in early April. That track is 600ft and I should have comparable conditons. Once I have some real world experience under my belt I will have more to say on this matter. My car only has light mods and an average tire on 20 inch rims so it should be interesting. |

Well, several of us Challenger owners came down to Camaro5 Fest last April. We didn't really see too many Camaros that could beat a Challenger. Matter of fact, a Challenger ended up almost winning the fast shootout that was unlimited. He got knocked out by the cute gal driving the 68' that pulled wheelies
![]() I've got plenty of videos I can post up as proof. I would say it's a driver's race. There was a guy in a Plum Crazy Purple R/T bone stock, with drive out tags still on the car and it was a 6 speed. I don't think a single Camaro he raced ever beat him, but he did have track experience. What I've found is that while the SS M6 cars have more power, the R/T's 5.L has more torque, never mind the SRT8's torque and power. Like I said, I have lots of friends on this site who love their Camaros, but to say one is blatantly faster than another between a Camaro and a Challenger is just not accurate. Now the 2011 Mustang......that is something to be reckoned with, but try to drive one on a long trip. It's all in what you want out of a car really. I can drive my Challenger across the country with three hot chicks in the car feeding me grapes, a cooler and luggage for all in the trunk, and hop out and feel like I've been sitting on the couch all day. |

If I could not have my camaro, I would have chosen a challenger. Nice looking car. But a Mustang??? Now thats something I never intend to own.

I would take the 5.0 mustang over the SRT8 chally anyday... especially V6 vs V6. My 2005 V6 Mustang could take the V6 chally. lol

Countless reviews and data compiled over the past few years show that the Camaro SS is faster than the challenger R/T. Quite a bit faster in LS3 form. It is also faster than the SRT-8. Mustang has currently bested the camaro by .2 tenths in stock form. Much larger gap than that from SS to R/T. Around a half second. Power to weight shows this to be the blatantly obvious outcome as well. Looking at trap speed and 1/4 mile data compiled thus far. The LS1 camaro is faster than the challenger R/T. If you have data to show otherwise I would be glad to see it. 4th gen has gone 12.8 stock. Trapped 109. 5th gen has gone 12.5 stock. Trapped up to 113. Just using best case scenario complied over long periods of time to be fair. Just because person A beat person B on one day does not mean nearly as much as data complied over years worth of runs. |

I prefer the real world comparison as Speedy suggested. Same track, same/similar conditions. Much more accurate. |

i prefer heads up comparisons as Speedy and wbt already mentioned. bench racing does not tell me by what margin i'm going to win or lose when i line up to car A or B the next time i head to the track.

based on my research
Challenger SE Average 0-60: mid to high 7s Average 1/4 mile: mid to high 15s 2005 Mustang V6 Average 0-60: high 6s to low 7s Average 1/4 mile: mid 15s Drivers race with the edge to the Mustang IMO PS I know this is bench racing but I researched this a lot and looked at numerous forum timeslips back when I had my Mustang. Irrelevant to me now since I no longer have it.

I see.
So the fact that no R/T has ran within a half second of the camaro means nothing. Great...sounds very intelligent. I guess the camaro wipes the floor with the 5.0 just because I want it to then and no one can prove otherwise. BTW...their was a challenger guy at the track on a day where nhra ran a 12.6. The othe guy had a modded RT that would not keep up with it. Their was even a thread about it on challengertalk. (lets ignore that situation though) the response? he had hidden mods etc. It was complete BS to everyone their. go ahead and look it up. |
