If the 2009 mustang gt is a muscle car then the 2010 camaro v6 is a muscle car. They are equal in most every performance measure.

I do agree with other posts however, the past models of v6s were barely able to get out of there own way.

I dont care what everyone says, my camaro is a muscle car. Compared to all the previous camaros that had over 300+ hp, the v6 is also making that amount and then sum! Its like a cowboy who wears the cowboy boots n hat without that big belt n buckle, so that wouldnt be a cowboy?

No, its not a Mussel Kar, its just a quick v6 with decent HP and low torque. Sure The HP rating may be close to the old cars back in the day, but the way they even rated HP is different than the way its rated today. Not only that, lets say an oldie but a goodie small block v8 had an HP rating of just 290 HP, the torque rating was much more than the HP, may 330 lb ft or more. Unfortunatly cars then had smaller tires with inferior rubber compunds compared with today which realistically scewed the 1/4 mile times do to bad tire spin. So your Camaro v6 gets pretty good grip off the line at 14.5 sec runs. You had big V8 doing 14.5s in the 1/4 with 3 speed auto transmission and uncontrollable wheel spin. So our 6 speed v6s are much more better dialed in, while the old cars were just raw brute power that you had to control off the line even with a good set of slicks.

Except that GT faster, and it doesn't matter about power the main problem is the weight

The V6 is not a muscle car it is a fast v6

Pony Car is probably the proper term of reference for ALL Camaros/Mustangs/Challengers, like it was "in the day"...

Muscle Car is almost a generic term, today, but originally related to a back-seat-usable, Big Block-powered "Intermediate" or bigger car...GTO, Malibu SS396/454, Roadrunner, Torino Cobra, AMC Machine etc.

An SS427 Impala or COPO Malibu was a "musclecar", a COPO Camaro was a "ponycar", a 427 Vette was neither...

W30 Olds, yes. W31 Olds, kinda-sorta...

The lines are simply blurred today...
-------

Ever driven one of those old camaros coming off the line. The wheel spin is uncontrolable, hence the 14.5 times. The tires were basic rubber compunds nowhere near as effective as today gripping tires. Todays tires don't even hardly screech anymore but sound like sand paper when the tires spin.

got to love how many people compare new models to old models. if the v6 camaro had 500HP and it was faster then a v8 camaro i still wouldn't call it a muscle car. i would call it a sports car. and whats wrong with that?

guys stop comparing your cars to older v8s plz stop. its not a fair fight.

lol ok my SS has more power then a 1970s ferrari. so i guess my car can be labeled a super car right? because it can beat a super car 30 dam years ago. o and my car is faster then 1990s corvettes. do i go bragging about that ?

I have everyone beat. I have a 2010 v6 that looks like a muscle car and 98 z28 muscle car that looks like a sport car! Seems things should be switched around here!
But in all seriousness, I bought my v6 for what it is, a quick daily driver, as having 426 hp or more in my 28 years of driving in socal is a waste of time and money, and all my cars were v8 z28's! Now if a fun toy and weekend driver that 75% of SS's are, and a muscle car is what I wanted, then thats what I would have bought.
But IMO, the v6 is not a muscle car in the basic sense of the word.

It is what it is and I think it's a great car, and the ss is what it is and it's great car.

IMO they really don't make muscle cars anymore. These cars today I would describe as being sports cars.
Muscle car(IMO): 2-door hardtop, big pushrod V8, made to look good on main street and haul @$$ on the drag strip(even though we all know they weren't going all that fast on factory rubber in the 60's) Handling/Brakes/MPG being an afterthought at best. And I really can't think of any car like that in production today.

Everyone has a different opinion of what "Muscle Car" is. IMO even the original Camaro wasn't one. I think of Chevelle, Impala, etc... as the mucle cars, and after the Oil embargo of the 70's they were pretty much gone. I've always considered the Camaro, Mustang and Challenger as pony cars, and Vettes as sport cars.
