Don't back down. It's not what these threads are about. Stick to your guns and engage.

All opinions are respected here. However, they may just get a response.

So, seriously, this Camaro stuff is serious enough, the Z28 is like super serious.

And so what is the ZL1 ...

I'm sorry if I came off cross, 35th. I didn't mean to...discussion and debate is a good thing! I just think rather differently about this than you do. And like you, I feel I have facts to back up my opinion....

Oddly enough, if you take a step back.....everybody DOES have facts to support themselves, which makes everybody "right" in some fashion or another. That's why I made my comment about perspectives.

ZL1 is not a name, it's mearly an alpha numeric "RPO" (regular production option) code to which they can assign anything. In 1969 it was assigned to the all aluminun, 4 bolt solid cam, 12.5 compression, 427. Look at the 6.2L LS3. Originally in 1970 the LS3 was a hydraulic cam 402.

If they make a king of the hill Camaro, so to speak, it would be historically correct to give it the option code of "ZL1". Right now the king of the hill motor is the LS9. I hope if they do it, they use the LSA, cause I can't afford a car with the mighty LS9 in it.

The Z/28 should have a LSA, and if they offer a ZL1 it should include the LS9.

Didn't Fbodfather say

"Any Chevy that has extra power and is sportier can be a SS, but only a Camaro can be a Z/28"

That is why the Z/28 can be a higher grade then the SS imo.

what i have a hard time understanding is why everything has to be so historically oriented to you guys?

i understand the nostalga of having a z/28 in the place where it belongs and how there's alot of interpertation to that

BUT

like it's been touted many many many times, this is an all new 21st century sports coupe (end quote GM)...

what do you think would make more money and help keep around the camaro for a while?

the ZL1 labeled top dog or the Z-28?

----

in all honesty, put in perspective; how many people even know about the ZL1?

how many know the name Z-28 and already know your talking about a camaro?

take those numbers and think of them in terms of potential buyer base, as it's been said a million times, whatever the z turns into will be a decision made by the people who count numbers through the suggestions of the people who know what passion behind the term camaro comes.

eventually, the z will come and it will be something that alot of people will want to buy.

Z28 known from gen one to gen 4 continously. ZL1 spots here and there. more people know of the Z28. but the enthusiasts know of ZL1's true legacy.

First of all, I think I speak for many people on this forum, GM made a mistake and will make an even bigger mistake with the model organization of the 5th generation Camaro. The Camaro model organization has always been like this:

RS < Z28 < SS < ZL1

I believe that GM will use the "Z28" name for the new high performance Camaro made to compete with the Mustang Shelby GT500. This is a grave error because the Z28 is supposed to have less performance than the SS. If anything the new high performance Camaro planed with the de-tuned LS9 engine(Same engine found in the new Cadillac CTS-V rated at 550HP) should be called the Camaro ZL1.

The Camaro model organization should have gone like this:

RS Camaro = 3.6L V6 with 304HP
Z28 Camaro = 6.2L LS3 V8 with 426HP
SS Camaro = 6.2L LS3 V8 with around 500HP
ZL1 Camaro = 6.2L Supercharged LSA with around 600HP

But instead reality is starting and will probably end up looking like this:

Base LS then LT Camaro = 3.6L V6 with 304HP
SS Camaro = 6.2L LS3 V8 with 426HP
Z28 Camaro = 6.2L Supercharged LS9 with around 550HP
ZL1 Camaro = ???

As you can see the model line is all screwed up but the worst part is GM could have done a lot better with parts and names that already exit since all the engines I mentioned already exit in GM's current product lineup. The only way to fix things will be to name Chevrolet's new high performance car with the supercharged LS9 the Camaro ZL1.

Before i wrote my opinion on the matter, I went to do a little research to make sure everything I said was true. The only time the Z28 was above the SS power wise was when the SS model was deleted from the lineup in 1973 till 1996 when Gm resurected the SS with the help of SLP Perfromance. Furthermore, the only car above the SS is the ZL1 although it was produced in limited quantities(69) in 1969 because of a GM loophole called COPO and again in 2002 with the help of GMMG Inc. They again produced 69 Camaro ZL1 in 2002 to commemorate the 69 Camaro ZL1 in 1969.

Hope GM makes the right decision when they come out with this new Camaro!
Well well guys... it appears as if I have won out V.S. all you true Camaro 5 members/followers that said it should be called z/28.

My original post from from October 2009! Saw it coming and you guys had no clue.

This seems like a more worthy advisary to the Mustang GT500KR.

If you don't know what the ZL1 is read this:

It seams GM has listened to you even if most members were against it lol

I think it's a mistake not to have a Z/28 model but whatever.

I'm surprised they didn't call it the ZL8 (Z-late) since they're years behind the Mustang supercharged models. I love Chevy but they need to bring it sooner than later.

You edited your "original" post just a few minutes ago. Never saw the original, so who knows what you added or deleted.

I think 1_2many beat you to the punch over a year ahead of your "original" post. I don't see any edit remarks on his original post. He wins IMO.
