Car and Driver has posted on their web site of MSRP starting at around $47,000, take it for what it is worth, but they do have some pull and "buddies" in the industry.

50-55k is a tough market... look for a used but pristine 20k mile or less car in that range and what do you find? CTS-V, C6 Z, C6 Grand Sport, Viper SRT-10s, etc. It's a buyer's market right now for used sports cars.

Two things to keep in mind with ZL1 pricing:

1) It's meant to compete with the GT500. Just as the SS competes with the Mustang GT, and the LT/LS Camaros compete with the V6 Mustangs.

2) It's not intended to sell as many cars as the SS does, for instance. 5...6...MAYBE 8 thousand units a year?

I could see that. Add that suede-trimmed interior and some other goodies (I'll bet the standard wheels don't come polished)..I'm sure it could reach 55k REAL quick with options...still quite the bargain!!

I commend all the wishful thinking...but with dealer mark ups no way this goes below 57 for the first year. Competitive to what...the GT500? Give me a break, this will be twice the car. GT500s still "sell" in Orlando for 45-50 and they are old news. I don't expect it to break below 50k until Summer 2013 if you are buying last years model...

Sticker on my CTS-V was around 72K. However I don't think you can compare the Cadillac against the Camaro directly even if it has a lot of the pieces from the Cadillac on it. It also depends on what the US dollar and economy does between now and then. With that being said (or typed) my best guess is a tick less than 48K to start. Also, I don't think the option list for this car is going to be very long. Probably around 52K loaded. Of course this doesn't include the inevitable dealer markups that are bound to occur. If I were serious about getting one of these, I would start developing a good relationship with a dealer in the not too distant future.

Boy, Car companies have you guys brainwashed!!
The GT500 sets the mark?????????
Only if Chevy wants them to and toes the line. Most expensive part of the ZL1 is the motor, and its paid for. Chevy can sell this car for the low 40's and still make plenty of money. don't compare part for part with the aftermarket, its a different animal. I wouldnt be surprised if the tranny is from the vette either. ALOT of these upgrades are already in the parts bin from other models.

Sure the Car is going to be hot at first. but that too will subside. they have to price it right!! I have a friend down here who is pretty high up at a chevy dealership. they have 6 stores down here in SFL.
I know the "Sales" figures that gets posted here at C5, however this dealer is sitting with 200+ Camaros on the lot, TWO HUNDRED plus!!
-bobby

I bet the car bases for 46-47, if not they wont move them after the 1st year.

I dont expect it do as well as expected. a little has to do with the pricing and where we are in the economy. Personally I cant justify spending that extra money for body styling, supercharger and MRC. A large number of people are already getting close to the same output as the stock ZL1. Especially with markup, we should not expect to see too many of these on the road.

While it's easier said than done, dealer markups are not mandatory payments...move on and get it for MSRP.

I completely disagree. The GT500 is selling for 50k and above the minute you add options. I believe they sell a steady 5000 a year, which I'd imagine is the ZL1s target volume. The market is there, and as you said, this is twice the car -- so it should do well!

We'll see....

Hopefully the public will see this car for the masterpiece it is, and not "body styling and supercharger"

Since a lot of you like to compare the price to a GT500, well, I just bought a 2011 GT500with SVT performance package ($3k+) and Elec Package ($2k+). The MSRP was $55k+. To price it competitively, the ZL1 would have to be in the $49k -$50k MSRP for the BASE model. Add thousands to that for options. And you can bet dealers will be asking a mark up because they have the SS on their side. It will go like this, "So, you don't wanna pay mark-up, well, let's walk over to this shiny new SS right over here...."

If rumors are true, at just a tad over 550hp, it better be be lighter or around the 3700 -3800lbs range which is where the GT500 is. 2011 Camaro SS is already @ 3860lbs, for ZL1 add a supercharger, extra suspension bits, heat exhanger, extra fluids, etc. etc. (deduct a few for lighter wheels and a few pounds savings elsewhere) it will still likely weigh in at the 4k+ lbs range. Nonetheless, with the IRS and stock fatter/stickier tires, it will still take the GT500 IMO.

PLEEEEESE let the base be at 47k... I don't need anything fancy... just the badge, motor and suspension... and I'm set...

The wife Loves the car… but hates anything that’s above the 50k point.

but realistically, I'm thinking 52k is gonna be base....FML

What are these "dealer markups" and why are people paying them? I have never paid over MSRP (TT&L excluded of course).
