I can tell you that after a few months of installing mine and having it dyoned tuned the #7 piston broke the top ring land. After the motor was pulled apart we also found the crankshaft was cracked.

Jannetty Racing built my new engine and during that process found that the way Edlebrock designed the fuel delivery system to the rails was most likely the cause of the failure. Jannetty has designed and sells a fuel upgrade system just for these super chargers.

I would not be surprised at all if something broke in one of the cylinders and got sucked through to the other cylinders and that is what broke off the tips of the plugs.

What ever it is good luck with it, as I feel your pain having gone through the same thing. Please keep us updated as to what you find.

Have any of you contacted Edelbrock to inform them of their issue? I would assume the repairs would be covered under Edelbrock's warranty, so have that mentioned anything to y'all about it?

My guess would be the tune. The #7 is always the first to break the ringland even on a naturally aspirated motor. This is the danger of an s/c on an engine not built for it but you don't see these shops who do tuning and selling them telling you this do you? The compression is to high and the pump gas is not friendly to it.. its all a risk. It's not the fuel system. If so everyone would have issue.

What really kills me is that I just got off the phone with someone who is being pushed in the same direction.. to go s/c and the person pushing them thinks there is no risk at all..... That's why we have broken engines all over the place. Shop Yada Yada will tell you they have a car ruining 8 lbs for 10 years without issue.. or are making 650 rwhp on the stock engine...
This is the truth about what can happen and does happens to a boosted engine not built for it running pump gas.

There is nothing wrong with the Edelbrock unit or setup. Its the tune and pump gas.. or the car was hammered to death and broke on the dyno.

I got news for ya.. the same thing can happen to you as well.
The number 7 has been infamous for this for years.. its the first one to go. Are the vent vapor tubes blocked off in the back of the heads? That was one reason for it.. lack of proper cooling back there.. then the tune was the the culprit on 99.9% of the cars.... get some detonation and there is only so much that poor little cast piston can take and then you add forced induction on top of it?!? It can happen to you and will if your not careful.

Notice the compression slim 2ss had his engine built to... 9:1... thats what is proper for forced induction.. not the 10.87 ? to one the stock engine is. So what you have here is failure to communicate.. the proper advise from some shops pimping these s/c all day long,.

What we have is a lack of experience by shops who are thought to know what they are doing.. we never saw this many blown engines before.. never... But we never had s/c's being tossed around like candy before either. Fueling was not the issue, I can almost guarantee it.

So, basically, it's not Edelbrock's fault?

I'm curious, does Edelbrock send a tune with their E-Force Superchargers?

Their full kit has one (red box, lower left), the 'competition' kit does not (you tune your own). I think the tune they supply is the only one you can use or you lose the supercharger's warranty, and their powertrain warranty if you bought one.

They do but I believe the canned tune disables the knock retard....which is why the shop I used called eldebrock, discussed this with them and decided on their own custom tune...they gave me the option of the canned tune versus their tune. Given the explanation, I was glad to pay for the custom tune.

honestly, I'm scared about blowing up my motor..I read Jannetty's issue withthe fuel rail so I'm getting that done soon, and I've heard guy say that I'll be fine at 7.5 lbs of boost but have read posts about owner's having their's break at similar boost/power levels....not just edelbrocks either...maggies, whipples, whatever. I'm not going going to launch, race or make 6K shifts until I get my motor forged/stroked, blower freindly cam, and at least down to 10 to 1 compression or maybe slightly lower.

Instead of blasting all the other vendors and bashing the Idea of supercharging stock engines in a effort to sell engines, I will try and Help you with your dilemma.

When spark plugs melt it is one of 2 things, or both, but is NOT the Fault of the Supercharger.

Too Lean an AFR which raises combustion temps to the point of melting plugs.

Or Too much Timing which also Raises combustion temps to the point of melting plugs.

Which 4 spark plugs?

Who's Tune are you running?

What fuel was in the tank at the time of this?

What Boost are you trying to run or running?

Any Other Mods to the Car?

We can and will Help you.

Ted.
