....In the Motor Trend offices anger builds. They have worked for nothing. Suddenly the phone rings. Caller id reveals the call is from Dearborn Michigan.
"hello." "Dammit man! It didn't work!"

I own GM and Ford cars. Bought Ford stocks in early 2009. I sit and smile today. But facts are facts. You say what he said is Great Factual response? We all watched the facts unfold live on TV and in real news, the hearings, etc. not from any of us on here. Who darn cares what else "might" have happened before and after. We all know and watched what really happened. GM got bailed out, period. Great that GM is positively climbing the profit ladder again.

2nd, there was nothing and I mean nothing misleading in the loan repayments. The stock that is held by the government was not part of the loan. And again, if you were in dire straights and as a friend I loaned you $10,000 but then a month later you got a job and things were good for you and you gave me my $10,000 back wouldn't you agree you paid back the loan? Wouldn't you think I was an a$$ if I tried to tell you you didn't? No one really is capable of grasping how GM went into bankruptcy. Many (too many) want to blaim management. Others think it was the UAW and other Unions that work with GM. Fact is simply this, the global economy (participated in fully by the American people) forced GM and the other OEMs to reduce costs to remain competitive. These new competitors were not only NOT burdened with legacy costs, they were also in a position where their government fully supported them and manipulated currency to give their companies a BIG leg up. So GM having to cut costs had only one choice, product. The product slipped because management was trying to feed the stockholders AND AND AND the legacy costs of a growing number of retirees. Almost the entirety of my career has been trying to develop programs and still be able to pay the huge and growing legacy costs. If you and everyone else knew how hard this was you'd be congratulating GM for holding out as long as it did. But sadly, gas hit $4.00 per gallon and the sudden drop in Full Size Truck and SUV sales immediately put GM in dire straights, tipping them in to bankruptcy. So as a 3rd generation GM employee (hearing of 4th genertions now) I can tell you I've seen all sides of it an frankly I get tired of people that KNOW it's one side or the other. It was both sides, compounded by our government (allowing YEN manipulation and failure to realize our companies were competing in a global market against companies that had no health care burden) and a populace that is more than willing to spend their dollars on foreign goods and services than any country in the world. And yes, that's my side and I don't expect you to understand. Just accept my appology as I was only responding to your post, not being condescending. That Mustang really sucks. I can't believe it sold as many as it did.

And certain media outlets insinuating that GM was lying in announcing the repayment of their loan was borderline slander by some wishing to tear down the company because of some ignorant and misplaced aggression towards them. The loans were repaid at the time of the announcement. End. Of. Story. The fact that the treasury still held shares of the company had no bearing on the announcement, and they did nothing to hide this. The goal was to announce progress; proof of success and increased financial health -- the repayment, in full, was progress worth being shared. Quote:
If only things were as simple as some talking heads would like us to believe... The treasury took the steps necessary (however unpleasant) to preserve what foundations of our economy they could. And those steps have so far been proven fruitful. EDIT: It's like watching a ship go down after a whale jumps on it in the middle of a freak hurricane and saying, "The Captain must not have known how to navigate, and the crew must have been asleep at their posts." ![]() In any event, this entire discussion is completely off-topic. Let's take it to PMs if it's to continue, please. |

Number 3, I'm sure people like you work very hard to bring us high quality cars that we can be passionate about, and I mean no disrespect. My above post is how I (and many others) see GM these days. I think it will take a while for the company to redeem itself after slipping from the industry leader and standard bearer to a company trying to sustain financial viability after a bankruptcy.

Just know that GM leaders understand your feelings about GM and are working hard every day to regain your and the rest of America's trust again. And I really can't believe that the Camaro is outselling the Mustang without a convertible or ZL1. Can't wait for those numbers to come in over the next year.

Wow! Camaro really kicked butt in Feb. Deja vu with the good ole days of 2010 when it all was born. Maybe some people saw the ZL1 announcement and decided they better get on the winning train before it leaves the station.
Dragoneye and Number 3 outsanding! I couldn't have said it better. What I have been saying on some of my older post. You just said it better than I did. Some seem to be proving here that they listen to the whitewash they hear on certain TV channels. These talking sh?t head pansies get their say hiding on network TV and only they get to hear my email response. I would really love to have a real "discussion" with them sometime, along with some of the union busting republican govenors we all have been hearing about. Yep, this is one weird thread. I just felt the need to lend my support here. Oh, did I say that Camaro really kicked some butt in Feb. |
