Also for those that say there isn't much difference. The SLP ZL1 uses a 427 with 2300 supercharger. Think of it like an LS7 with the supercharger from the LS9 put together to make 750 hp and still be reliable!

If I could afford it I would have an SLP ZL1, instead I will "settle" for a 2012 Zl1. Life is tough sometimes.
WOW , that looks killer in red .

Its tough to say. Cars in general in today's market will be harder to garner increased values simply due to the fact that the market is flooded with cars. In time I believe they will become valuable, but IMO you will have to keep them longer to see those values. Ultimately that will mean that owners will have to spend more on upkeep, storage etc. to keep these cars in mint condition.

This is a very interesting time right now in Camaro history. Enjoy it, as the EPA axe awaits us!

If you visit the Corvette Forum (Z06) and look at the times that have been entered in the fast list you will see that Z06's will not be intimadated by the SLP 585 Camaro. Even tho the Camaro has 80 more HP the Vette that holds the #1 slot turned 10.74 @ 129.5 miles in the bone stock class with stock run flat tires. Even the 10th fastest car turned 11.45 @ 124. Then when you get into bone stock with just drag radials the #1 time is 10.74 @ 129.5. Alot of the runs also include videos.

from with that price tag is your not getting that much car for 70 grand. I cant see the SLP's holding value specially after the ZL1 is out because nobody is going to care 3-4 years down the road

Post #30, you may be right on that account because Motorweek's test seemed very optimistic of the zl585's performance. Be that as it may, it is a published test (along with R&T, MT and Edmunds) of a stock car using a standard parameter of speed and turning radius distances. FWIW the same three sources tested a z06, and while Road and Track and Edmunds' numbers for it were spread out further from the zl575, it was strange that Motorweek's numbers for the zl585 seemed almost dead on with their test for a z06. Its for that reason that I am more inclined to believe Road and Track and Edmunds' more conservative lap times for the zl(zl575).

^It will be interesting to see how the zl585 and chevy's zl1 will compete against each other, with the zl1 bringing in a competitive suspension, tire and wheel package. Value is a very hard thing to predict...it will depend on how many units will be produced, how good a car will be in its use, and a lot of other mysterious things that goes into a car's image.

I'm sure it's been posted already. But Motorweek TV did a review of the ZL 585.

I just saw a IBM SLP ZL1 on Youtube and the price was $139,999 (no tire kickers). I'm thinking the GM ZL1 is gonna be alot closer to my price range providing it stays around the high $40,000 to low $50,000.

Remember all those mods can be purchased by anyone; The difference is your paying for a specific "package", brand name and warranty offered by those vendors (SLP, or LPE for example).
You can convert your existing Camaro to your own personal ZL(n) if you want.

Yes and no...the ZL1 from SLP will be one of 69 cars equipped by them, like that. And the ZLxxx series cars are all serialized, also limited to I think 500 produced?

My point is, they're special in their own right...you can modify your own car to be as fast, absolutely....but just like factory body-kits won't turn a Corvette into a "real" Z06, you can't mod your own car into a "ZL" anything without going through SLP.

SLP sells a lot of their parts that go into the ZL585 but not all of them. You could build one that is just as fast but it wouldn't be the complete package. The SLP ZL1 also has lots of unique parts that they won't be selling. The engine/ blower package for one. It really is a special car and it will hold its value better than you putting the same money into a car. They will also likely hold their value because they will be fairly rare. SLP has a history with this type of vehicle. The firehawks and the 97 SS LT4 come to mind. While they may not be Yenko or Baldwin Motion, they have built a name for themselves as a builder who does quality work, and they are continuing to build on that tradition.

Agreed. But, putting my own mods on I can do it in my timeframe and with my budget over time rather than the big drop in the bucket all at once or financing.
Really, I'm not that nostalgic or egotistical to concern myself about the value of a car in 10yrs from now or what the serial number means. I bought it because I like it and want to drive it to have fun, so if it's an SLP ZL(nnn), a GM ZL1 or my poor old SS with all the latest greatest kits on it doesn't matter to me as long I can drive the shit out of it on the track or on the road and it's reliable.
And, if something does break or I want a better part, I can pick / choose which one is right for my needs for example I can pick choose a clutch system that I think I may like based on my research rather than having to settle for whatever gets thrown in as part of the aftermarket ZL(nnn) system.
However, the package deals are great too for people who have other needs like colletors or someone who doesn't want the hassle of doing the research, planning or dealing with installers.
Definately, SLPs' vehicles are cool and will make lots of people very pleased.
I tell you this though, honestly, if I were to choose, definately I'd go for the SLP version of the ZL1 than the GM version because I think it's a better overall build and I don't care about the nostalgic value. Most people don't even know what a Camaro is nowadays. LOL

It takes all kinds. Luckily we all have different tastes and the Camaro is a great platform to satisfy them all.
