I read somewhere that people how buy a v6 on a new muscle car can only mean two things either your to dam poor to afford the v8 or your a woman and don't care about racing.

I am getting the V-6 because it is the only way you can get a 2010 Camaro RS and still have it say RS. If you get either the 1SS or 2SS and add the RS package it will say "SS" in red. I want my car to have the red RS. I am also following what I already have and that is a 1987 Camaro RS, which I have had for 22 years, it has a v-6 engine and has 135 hp, my New Camaro will have over twice this amount, 304hp. I also have a Dodge Magnum that has a V-8 (5.7 Hemi) which is rated at 340 - 347hp and I really do not want to pay for the higher octane in two cars or the insurance for two v-8's. And as for being able to afford it, I can easly buy a fully loaded 2SS/RS and add all the nice extras, I am also 50 year old Retired U.S. Navy Veteran and I now am a Junior High School History Teacher. The point is I am buying what I want, and since I am buying it, driving it, and paying for it I am going to get what I want and not what someone else thinks I should get. So for everyone get the New Camaro that You want and if someone does not like, well thats their problem then.

It would be a sin for me to go from a z28 to a v6.
Welcome congregation! Please open your Automobile Bibles to the book of Locomotives Chapter 6 verse 8...and I quote: He became embarrassed of his v6's promiscuity and lack of performance. And before him was presented a Hood. And under that hood was an engine of awesome power. He came to know the engine as v8 and they married. This is a sacred most high union that can only be separated by death. Traffic from the light cleared to the rear and he knew that reverting back to a v6 would be an abomination. The exhausts said Amen! Amen! ![]() ps. The Camaro v6 is great, but a v6 in some regular car would feel like I was driving in slow motion. |

I second this sentiment.
Personally, the V6 is more along the lines of what I want also. Even if I could afford the SS, I'd just get the V6. I like the sound better (don't shoot me! just stating my opinion) and the power will be more than enough for me, plus the better mileage, cheaper insurance, and lower payment. I just want the RWD and enough power to have fun with it. And my car WILL see the track from time to time (not drag strip, a road course) so the whole V6 isn't for racing thing - you can shove it. - Xanthos

If the six wasn't so freaking powerful...this would be an easy choice for me...but it's not.
I've been weighing the pros and cons of a six versus an eight for almost a year now. I've even test driven comparable cars...and I'm still not sure what I want. Clearly, there's nothing wrong with the V6 in the least. Anybody saying otherwise is living under a rock, or has been spoiled by overpowered cars all their life... ![]() fwiw, in the end; my plans for a V6 (should I get it) could EASILY lay waste to anything on the roads less than a C6 Z06..........how can anyone call that potential 'bad'?

I have a alfa romeo 147 with 145 hp factory and 25hp boost, the engine is diesel 1,9 multijet with 4 cylinders, also the car weighs probably half the camaro around 2000 pounds. Also I have diesel 63 mpg highway and 40 mpg city, that's 5 l /100km and 8 l/ 100km, hopefully the math is right.
aside from the rear drive I expect due to near identical power /weight ratio they'll feel close. The V6 is very impressing especially compared to old engines. nowadays there are new 2l engines with 260 hp, when you do the math a 6.2l gasoline with just 422 hp is the weaker, it should brand 650hp. I'd say out of the V6 and V8 the V6 is by far the better engine. ![]() ![]() ![]() :happy anim:

how many miles do you have with the old one ? any serious repairs? ![]() i'm getting also a fully loaded V6, that will end up costing me more than a full V8 as i'm taking it to europe. registration tax here is a killer, it can be more than the car itself. it's the european way to compensate for small roads and crowded cities: "buy smarts , use a yaris as a hummer " |
