My friend had an 03 cobra.. he ended up buying those plates..
He had a fast cobra. ran a 10s pass on street tires not drag radials (not the stock tires though)..

I collected a lot of information over the last two weeks on this 2013 SVT Cobra. I was hoping that Ford would go totally public after the ZL1 info was released in February but that is not the case. There are several avenues Ford can take but the most logical two would be cost and future proof builds. The 5.4 is expensive and is not future proof by any means, however, it still may be cheaper to push out a revised 5.4 for one year or just top it with a 2300 TVS then bring the Coyote stroker out right now. I know the 5.8 was completed in 2009 but the cost to bring both the 5.0 and 5.8 to market would have been huge... the 5.4 was also in full swing at the time...
Without going into extreme detail, the suspension details are trickling down the pipe. This might have a drag pack option over the SVT Performance Package and using the FR500CJ suspension will see a huge drop in ride height. I posted the actual part numbers a month or so ago... This is the largest factory drop on a Mustang that you can get, it also traps the axles and eliminates hop and weight transfer. The latest spy shots are almost a week old and I waited to see if anyone posted it up here... Shelby and Ford's contract has ended and together, they built some of the greatest Mustang's ever built. This 2013 SVT Cobra will be a collage of the S197 and the ZL1 will most likely do battle with the base SVT Mustang (ie GT500), who's to say that the remaining 2012 GT500's won't be sold as 2013 GT500's. This was done in 1969-1970 with the GT500's that remained unsold, they were reskinned and sold without the Cobra emblems/Shelby influence because the contract between Shelby/Ford ended mid 1969. It is possible that there will be a 2013 GT500 under the same circumstances there were 1969-70's... contract is up but units still remain. That would be the ZL1's direct competition as it would hopefully be in the same price range... Either way, the 2013 Mustangs will be just as unique as the 1970 Mustangs were... and very collectible... |

The Ford GT/Ford Shelby Cobra/GR-1 was a chassis experiment more than a car. Ford wanted to see if they could make a global chassis that could use both rear and front engines. Think of a global sports car chassis that could be used in the Ford GT, Ford Cobra and Ford Mustang and maybe some other select projects... Edit: There are measures that can be taken to get this car to production I just don't think it is worth the cost to do so... Last edited by thePill; 05-03-2011 at 03:18 AM. |

Edit: Also, the number built is incorrect on the tag pictured above. The tag says #590 of 5082, there were 13,476 Cobra's built in 2003 and 5,664 built in 2004. Last edited by thePill; 05-03-2011 at 04:05 AM. |

That must mean the 05 GT Mustangs code name was "God" cause it brought the Camaro and Challenger back from the dead!

When the decision was made to discontinue the Camaro/Firebird, the Mustang was out selling the duo at a ratio of 4 to 1. That was four Mustang's to every one Camaro or Firebird. The 2003 Cobra was the fastest pony car at the time and up until the GT500 was produced in 2006 for MY07. The Terminator is still considered to be very fast even compared to today’s pony cars, in 2002, GM had nothing availible in stock form that would match the Cobra stock. Even though it was thought to be a victory by most Mustang enthusiast, the Camaro/Firebird being discontinued was probably the worst thing that could have happened to the pony car segment. At the time, GM was only selling a handful of Camaro/Firebird's and choose to exit the pony car game to concentrate on the growing SUV market. It nearly destroyed the Mustang too... If the internet was as strong as it is today, I highly doubt GM would have went through with the decision. I myself petitioned multiple automobile magazines along with countless others but to no effect... Then came the 2005 Mustang shortly after and created the market we are currently in. Now the market rest almost solely on the Camaro to carry it until it is reinvented. Anyone who doesn't remember why the Camaro was discontinued was either too young or just ignoring what happened... I heard that Ford sold its soul to the devil for the new 5.0.
