i knew i had to have forgotten at least a couple!

Here is a shot of the TR6060 MG9 that is paired with the LSA, below it is the TR6060 MH3 that the LS9 uses. Still no spec's on the MH3.

2010 Tremec TR6060 (MG9) Six Speed RWD Manual Transmission
1st gear ratio: 2.66

2010 Tremec TR6060 (MH3) Six Speed RWD Manual Transmission
1st gear ratio: 2.29

The TR6060 MH3 here is missing the bell housing and tail housing but as you can see it is nearly identical to the MG9... Here is the SS's TR6060 M10 as well.

2010 Tremec TR6060 (M10) Six Speed RWD

All three transmissions are identical externally, a MH3 could be matched to an LSA if power levels exceeded the MG9's torque ratings. With a 2.29 1st gear ratio, I believe the ZL1 would have to go with a final gear ratio lower than 3.73.

Any thoughts?

i think theyre gonna have no choice but to go with the MH3, they should know that Camaro owners are expecting to beat the hell out of their cars. If GM sides with the cars potential, than its gonna come with the MH3. If they dont really care about people that will mod their cars to out of warranty levels and prefer that people drive it AS DELIVERED (which i think is the case given their insistance on keeping hyper pistons) , then the MG9 will suffice.

Just upgrading the transmission from the MG9 to the MH3 will greatly reduce the cost to produce if mated to the LSA. I mean, the LS9 is $21,000 alone, both the MG9 and MH3 should be around $6k new and I believe they weigh about 150lbs wet with the dual clutch. I just wish I had the MH3's weight in which it was validated at the 620ft lbs.

Edit: The TR6060 MG9 can be found for $4200-$4500 dollars, the MH3's price is hard to come by but I have heard over $6k.

Complete MH3 gear set ratio's
First: 2.29
Second: 1.61
Third: 1.21
Fourth: 1.00
Fifth: 0.81
Sixth: 0.67
Reverse: 3.11
Final drive ratio: 3.42

A 3.73 final looks like it would be good to go, I believe the CTS-V used a 4. something (so says the Caddy website)... It could work, since any gas guzzler tax avoidance is out of the question now.

The 6L90 automatic option is still on the table, even though the torque rating is 551lb-ft at 4255lbs, a beefier torgue converter can be used am I right? The 6L90's maximum gearbox torque is 885 lb-ft so additional torque can be handled. That rating is specifically for different torque converter applications (such as heavy trucks)

i would guess they would validate it at the same weight most of their trannys are weighted at? can you run by me the other weights? did you say the MG9 was rated at 4250lbs and most of their other trannies at 4000lbs?

I think if they went with the MG9 they would clamp down EVEN more on aftermarket modifications to keep tremec happy with warranty work. just a thought.

SS's M10 was rated at 430lb-ft at 3860lbs
CTS-V's MG9 was 560lb-ft at 4255lbs
6.0 M12's GTO/CTS was rated 400lb-ft at 4000lbs
Old Z51 MZ6 was 425 at 4000lbs
Old MM6 was 470 at 4000lbs.
New Z06 MM6 500 at 4000lbs.
ZR1: 620 at unknown weight (4000lbs I believe)

Looks like the Corvettes are given a generic number of 4000lbs.

i dont think it would be out of line to venture the guess of the MH3 at 4000lbs

LOL can you find out what OLD transmissions like TH350's, TH400's and ford C4, and C6 were rated at?!? Im pushing 700tq on my near stock C6 and that thing wont die!!

GM would have to get the ZL1's weight down to 4000lbs if the MH3 was rated 620lb-ft at 4000lbs. I get between 4105 and 4155lbs with a manual (best case/worst case). I am assuming in the 4015lb figure that maximum weight was saved in the exhaust but that would be from an aftermarket source. OEM weights would be higher no doubt due to emission requirements and the pieces that come with that.

Automatic's are a different animal all together. They are given two different ratings, one is maximum engine torque which is kind of standardized. The other rating is maximum gearbox torque which takes torque conversion into consideration. For example, the Hydramatic 6L90 has two ratings, 551lb-ft and 885lb-ft... Torque converters are responsible for that, another reason drag racers love autos..

The 551 would be the minimum with a 1:1 conversion, like a stick, the 885 would include the maximum after conversion as well as a large GVWR and Tow Capacity.

I would buy the 5.0 GT b/f the gt500 especially since the 5.0s are crushing them at the track. In fact, I saw an E55 beat a heavily modified gt500 for money. I am not impressed.
