Think about it, this is how this will go down. The ZL1 with spank the gt500 on the road course but the gt500 will spank the zl1 in a straight line.

The gt500 with a 5.8 coyote engine with a tvs and all the latest technology, fully forged will make stupid power. This car will make around 750rwhp with a pully, tune and basic stuff like that and be 400-500lbs lighter than a zl1. In a straight line the zl-1 will be getting smoked by this thing.

Now on the other hand the zl1 is what you want for handleing, it has all the zr-1 susspension systems on it, magnetic shocks, ptm system etc. The gt500 will not be able to keep up with this car on a road course.

So in the end it boils down to what kind of car you want, Do you want brute acceleration, get the gt500. If you want a car with supercar like handleing and some decent power get the zl-1

I highly doubt the ZL1 will spank the GT500 in the road course. The current GT500 with the SVTPP already handles extremely well and if Ford uses the 302 suspension magic on the new GT500, the ZL1 stands no chance. I hope not but looking that way.

It's kind of entertaining to read everyone's underestimations of the ZL1 this early on....And it's even MORE entertaining to read assumptions of the GT500's superiority even EARLIER....

Granted, we don't know very much about either vehicle, but the stage is being set for a substantial "shock-and-awe", I think...or a disappointment. I guess it depends who you're talking to.

If it really is like that than I would pick the zL1 as the better car. But I think when it's all said and done, both these cars would be sO fast and close to eachother that the human element would have a way bigger effect on the results than the mechanical differences.

The Boss's suspension setup is almost identical to the Shelby's aftermarket GT350. I had my eye on the system since the first test. Ford has some incredible pieces in the Ford Racing catalog and I honestly believe that the GT500 will have the catalog parts. Even though this system is adjustable, this suspension will not be as soft for say, someone who doesn't want a race car suspension.

I was thinking of the possibility of a Boss, GT500 and SVT Cobra lineup to take the S197 out with a bang... I know the 70's concept Boss 302 will be the 2013, not sure if its going to get a little make over or if it’s just gonna be some paint and hockey stripes. There was an awesome concept awhile ago that I would like to see.

I could see a limited run of 620hp 20th Anniversary SVT Cobra "Terminators" along with the regular run of GT500's. The possibilities are endless.

I would love to see a sneak peak of the control blade IRS before it goes live in 2014. It is operational and availible for the S197... Why not show it alittle?.. I know why they won't but still.. It would be pretty cool.

+1 that concept was off the hook. Ford is in an EXCELLENT position to churn out a variety of Mustangs all with their own unique personality!

I had heard that Ford is doing some exterior remodeling for the last model year... I could easily live with this...

As excited as I am about these big power V8's coming out, I can honestly say that I am really anticipating the next generation Mustang/Camaro Eco 4's. I know both pony cars will lose some substantial weight and people are fearing that our cars will be smaller than the current generations but I have faith that both cars will be comfortable, using an optimal wheelbase's.

People are getting excited on both sides and exaggerating is bound to happen. As for the rumors, Ford and GM are at each others throats, spy shots and inside information are no longer accidental like the 80's. Both companies take precautions to conceal their operations. Rumors, at this point are definitely company leaks... All we can do now is build on this excitement and wait for GM to release similar information.

I realize that information like a 620hp GT500 is really disheartening to a Camaro fan. One month ago, most people thought the comparison would have been 50/50 between the two. The amount of technology on the ZL1 alone is very impressive and performance was challenged, even when nothing of the ZL1 is known, after the Boss 302 lapped Laguna Seca. This leak was intended to take the wind from the ZL1's sails, and in my opinion, that information did just that.

I was pulling for the ZL1 (Z28 then) to come out this year.. I mean... being delivered as I type this. This would have given the ZL1 a nice long run before Ford would counter. I also would have liked to seen GM hold on to some cards, which I believe they still have some cards to play, but GM laid too much out, too early... Ford is intending to back the performance numbers (HP and TQ) right up to the ZR1 Corvette and everyone knows where that leaves GM. Maybe it’s the Camaro's time... maybe that’s GM's big card...

Anyway, I am completely enjoying this war as I did back in the 80's and 90's. I have really been thrown for a loop on the rumored 620hp GT500 and I think this could be the boldest, most aggressive move in the entire Pony Car War... Now we wait for GM's leak and in order for it to top the last one, it has got to be a jaw dropper...

Though I won't be in the market for that kind of Camaro...I am looking forward to seeing how they'll do, too.

It's entertaining to believe the companies order test cars to park in front of a camera man...but that's not how it goes down. Nevertheless - the spy photos are still there, so it really doesn't matter if they were intentional or not.

Um.....a rumor about the GT500 wasn't disheartening AT ALL. You assume a LOT with that statement....a LOT, a LOT...The ZL1 isn't out yet, and we don't know half of the work that's gone into it. The Boss is also exceptional...but it doesn't represent much of a threat to the ZL1 either.

Wait for it to be released before you pretend we're all running to cry in the corner. Bad form.....:(

Adding more power....the boldest, most aggressive move? heh.....I gotta say, Pill -- I know you're a Ford/Mustang guy and these comments are to be expected, but sometimes I can't help but chuckle at the way you post things...

Chevy doesn't need to leak anything, because this rumor was...a rumor. I don't think anybody here cares about it besides the handful of Mustang lurkers we have perpetuating this thread.

We'll see who's on top in the end...not that it matters...sales tell the story.

trust me you don't want to be stuck in the mustang vs camaro argument with the sales, not performance, stance in the argument.
