OK I'll bite....And?

I have been driving stick since I was 12, I have the longest name in my family that starts with "D", and I have been breathing since I was born...

How are shorter throws (the reason guys put them in the race cars) a bad thing when racing? So is this just an issue with competitive pilots that can speed shift a 52 chevy? Will much less talented and stupid people who are not competitive have these same struggles.

What did he recommend instead? Use small uncompetitive, non-technical terms that someone who has never seen a 52 chevy can understand please.

Okay, so he found it a distraction while racing at 120 mph with cars all around him. How is that in any way like every day driving?

I just want to know why you came in here and advised us NOT to get the Hurst for every day driving. Hurst has been the most popular aftermarket (and in some cases factory-installed) shifter ever since I started driving 35 years ago. And I've been driving Hurst-equipped cars daily most of that time.

Listen, your brother certainly sounds like he has great credentials and knows what he's talking about. And it sounds like he's had a bad experience with a Hurst. But you still haven't given a good answer why he/you advise against getting one for every day driving. Because it would give your wife "grief?"

I certainly will have a hurst short throw in my new Camaro. I had one in my 01 ss and it worked flawlessly and seemed bulletproof. Maybe the 52 chevy was a 3 on the tree.

Ok this topic is a bit of a mute point now, no?

Might have to just order it from the catalog and have the dealer install it.

Sorry this was just emailed to me by my Chevy dealer. "An additional constraint will also will be introduced for the Hurst Short Throw Shifter LPO (code VYV). This shifter will NOT be available as a LPO accessory (appearing on the window and invoice as a dealer-installed accessory), but will be available in the future as both a factory installed RPO, and a regular dealer installed accessory. Further information on the timing of Hurst Short Throw Shifter RPO will be provided in the coming weeks.

Since this shifter will be available as a regular dealer installed accessory, orders with the LPO (code VYV) currently "in-system" will be removed. Dealers should also be encouraged to remove this LPO (code VYV) from their orders.

Customers desiring the Hurst Shifter can instruct their dealers to either wait until the new RPO is introduced, or have the shifter installed at the dealer as a Chevy accessory after the parts are released for sale".

If you leave it on your order would it hold up your car from being built?

Hey, I just heard that CGM-painted Hurst shifters with ambient lighting were PULLED FROM THE FACTORY LINE and now must be installed by some guy named "Vinnie."

Calling on all GM employees, Scotty, or anyone with a Magic 8 Ball to confirm or deny!

(Sorry. Couldn't resist after reading all this stuff.)

[QUOTE=wjones14;297763]Okay,
I just want to know why you came in here and advised us NOT to get the Hurst for every day driving. "

I NEVER advised you or anyone else to do OR "not" to do ANYTHING.

All I did was give one experienced drivers opinion. SEEMS YOU GET FLAMED ON HERE if you have any contrary opinion !!!!!!!!

Given he was doing Chevy engine rebuilds/changes at 13, rebuilding his super T-10's @ 18 , rebuilding his differentials at 19. and is certified by Transport Canada as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer I respect his opinion.

He has driven Fbody since 69. Drives 02 Fire Hawk STICK. Raced his prepared road car in Laguna Seca last year. (old Players class)

Maybe he thinks guys who can't do speed shifts without a clutch need that shifter.??

I think there are lots of novices on here who will go out and get that shifter just because some one here said it was a must have.Try the shifter that comes with it. If you need more then go get it.

All I did was offer another view.

Maybe it's the driver NOT the shifter!

Hey dude...I don't car if the guy met the Pope and and received a special dispensation. Every person on here either asked a question or gave an answer but YOU, and your chucklehead brother. Those who have recommended the shifter gave at least a few reasons why it makes a great shifter. Does the car have to have it to operate? No. But we think it makes it better. I asked you 2 real questions (and a couple softballs) and you come back with defending why your brother is so qualified to answer a question has hasn't answered. Sweating pipes doesn't make me a plumber. Those questions again are:

1 - what does he recommend? (it would be beneficial to the rest of us dummies as to WHY he recommends it)

2 - Why is a short throw shifter a bad thing when racing?

No one is "flaming" you because you have a different opinion. We are flaming you because you don't have an opinion. That would be like someone asking about the paint, and everyone here says get the clear coat you'll love the shine, it cleans up easy, and it protects the paint. You come on tell us your sister paints houses since she was 3 and she says green is the worst color. I don't think people will just take her word for it. They may wan to know why. That is really all I was asking. We all said get the Hurst, you come on and say it is horrible. What is horrible about it?

If you have to have a Hurst to help you shift.......go buy it.

Some guys will only have a Holley (my preference) others got to have a Edelbrock. Some like Q-JET some don't.

I would never tell you what color your sister should paint your CAMARO.

I can't help it if you have to have some one tell you what to do because you can't understand what's been written.

Have a nice day.

There are people on this forum that have not had the vast experience you....I mean your brother has. Those people have asked for opinions. I was kind enough to provide my opinion as to what my experience has been. I don't recall asking anyone's opinion, or asking anyone what I should do. Could you show me where I have asked for someone to tell me what to do? I would really appreciate the help. My incompetence is overwhelming me. See when I bought my shifter, I bought it because I really liked it. I want others to share my joy. Its a shame you don't want others to be happy.

You can always order the Hurst shifter and install it after you get the car and see if the factory shifter will work for you. I installed one in my Cobra in about 30 minutes. It is a VERY easy install - at least on my Cobra - I am sure the Camaro will not be too difficult. I checked out the throw on the 6 speed i sat in Wednesday - it seemed to be fine to me - I opted to not go woth the Hurst shifter for now - I will wait and see how the factory one performs. One of teh benefits to a short throw after market shifter is that it centers itself very quickly to allow for a quicker shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. Honestly, unless you are on the strip trying to shave off a tenth of a second - the factory shifter should be just fine. Just my two cents.
