recommended floor jack point damaged?

Today I used a floor jack to lift up the front of my car using the recommended positions on the pic and it left a nice dent on the crossmember and possibly a little bend from it. Is this expected or do I have a serious problem on my hands? I used the 2nd crossmember spot from the front of the vehicle on the pic.

I don't see how you could possibly have bent it... taking paint off.. yup if you didn't put a pad between your jack and the cross-member...

I didnt put a pad betweent the jack and the crossmember.. so is the dent ok or is it something that I should be worried about? Maybe is not really bent but it just look like it from the dent but possibly it could be.

I'd say your fine, it's probably fine and the scratch is throwing you off.. Only you really know for sure though... The scratch is fine, although I'd grab some closs black paint and cover it over to prevent rust.

Next time use a microfiber rag or towel to prevent the scratches

They also sell rubber spacers that are specifically made for floor jacks. They double as beer coasters.....

That can't be right.....only one floor jack up front?

How are you supposed to keep it from wobbling? (Yes, I realize both of the rear tires are on the ground still....but it's not going to be what I'd call "stable"....is it?

Been there, done that also had a thin rubber pad but the car sat so low and still bent the frame foward of engine as photo shows. This is a heavy car and the frames are not like old Chevys 64-70 "HEAVY METAL" At least my first Dent is on the under side instead of the fender or door and at least I did it not someone else.

ok, I am with you OP. I did the same thing. The pad on my jack has a raised and grooved edge and I didn't use a flat whatever in between the pad and the cross-member. The result.....slightly bent and scratched crossmember.

Don't use the second crossmember in the front use the first crossmember only.

so I am ok right? Is not like if I was to have bent the frame or something big like that right? I was just following the picture and recommended positions but I did not think of a pad to put between the jack and the metal. I know now.

Thanks for that. I didn't see it.

But still...even with a floor jack...isn't it unstable?
