Doing my fluids change today, question?

Okay I know this has been asked many times here but I just wanted to verify since I am changing my oil, tranny oil and diff oil today. I have a LS3 w/ M6 tranny.I got a little bit over 2k on the odometer. I got 8 qts Mobil 1 synthetic for the engine, 1qt Royal Purple 75w90 for the rear end and my question is which tranny fluid do I get, I was going to get Mobile 1 ATF and I just wanted to verify if this was it?:

Is there anything else I need? Thanks in advance for your help.

After a quick search, I stumbled upon an answer from Mobil directly on the subject, linked HERE. They say to use Mobil Dexron VI ATF as it's specifically formulated for late model GM transmissions. I myself used Royal Purple Syncromax as was recommended on here from many people.

Good catch Eric Baker. There does seem to be some confusion about using the Mobil1 synthetic ATF in manuals. I just read on another thread that someone used the Mobil1 ATF for their manual transmission and it made their transmission shift worse. They ended up going back to the GM stock fluid. Now we may know why. Thanks for sharing this!

Royal purple rear diff fluid has been known to cause moaning in the rear. The gm fluid is synthetic and has the proper additives. IMO royal purple lubricants areaverage at best.

Thanks for the responses but which transmission fluid should I put it in the car, Im thinking of just sticking to Mobil 1 products for all three, my main concern is what tranny fluid do I put in there, if I want to stick with Mobil do I use the one that I posted up. Any input form guys running Mobil 1 in their trannys would be really appreciated, thanks.

RP is far better as a synth oil product than most anything on the market...Far better than Mobil 1...only thing close in amsoil or redline which is Really expesive...

You might check out this thread, especially the post from ssmike. Looks like he tried the Mobil1 synthetic ATF and didn't like the results.

Get the right fluid!!! The Mobil 1 synthetic ATF you want for your Camaro manual tranny is based on the older Dexron 3 ATF fluid that was specified on the bottle for OLDER GM automatic trannys. The bottle says otherwise I know. Ignore that!

Some of the confusion comes from Mobil changing the product offering recently. They used to have 2 synthetic ATF formulas (1 for DEX 3 specified on the bottle for older GM cars and 1 that was specified on the bottle for newer DEX VI cars) but it seems they only have one true SYNTHETIC formula now. The Mobil 1 synthetic fluid you want should have a definate smell (gear oil smell) to it unlike the original GM fluid that comes out of your tranny. You want the DEX 3 based formula that says on the bottle it is for OLDER GM cars, not the Dex VI version that is specified on the bottle for Newer GM cars.

Also - The current Mobil 1 DEX VI ATF version (specified on the bottle for newer GM vehicles) does not apper to be synthetic. This fluid will not help your notchyness and should not be used.

-Mark.

For the M6 TR6060 trans, use 4 qts of Royal Purple Synchromax. I tried several different brands of synthetic, RP worked the best for me. Most noticeable when cold, it's a bit less notchy.

Some work good when hot, not so great when cold... RP was the only one I found that worked best hot or cold. Pricey, but worth it if your looking for the best.

Okay, I'm really confused. Are any of these the "right" fluid?

Can't read the bottle, but I'm pretty sure you want #3 (Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF - should say DexIII somewhere on the bottle)

Just did the same. Researching the (TREMEC TR6060 ) M6 tranny fluid though I could not conclude using Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF was acceptable. The factory fill was Texaco Dexron III with a warning not to use the new Dexron VI. Now that GM did not renew licensing of Dexron III they now recommend Manual Tranny Fluid Gm 88861800 ( not synthetic) which I bought to be safe. I could not find any Mobil 1 ATF meeting DEXRON III. http://paceperformance.com/i-5132104...rs-trucks.html

I just ended up changing my oil(mobil 1 synth), rear end fluid (mobil 1 75w90 w/ gm additive), and Gm manual tranny fluid. I got to admit this was real easy and it only took me an hour and a half and had fun doing it. I used a pump to get the tranny fluid in the tranny. The car runs great and I have the piece of mind that I got it all done properly.
