The nannies scared me the other way, after driving my 98z28 for over 247,000+ miles, which has no nannies.
The first time the back end broke free, it was in a place where it always did in my 98.
I was ready for it just about the time I was going to correct for the rearend coming up beside me, before I could the nannies took over. I was what the f....
Now I wonder using the nannies for the last year and a half, have i forgotten how to really drive??

I always drive my car in Competitive Mode in M. I usually use my paddle shifters as well. I grew up racing old muscle. My first new muscle car was the SRT8 Magnum. The nannies were off by default with my custom tune. Once you are used to power and driving, there is no other way! After 18 years behind the wheel, I can honestly say I've never wrecked anything (knock on wood). About 90% of my cars have been 400+ hp beginning at the age of 15 with a '69 390 Boss Mustang.

x3. I guess I'm an old fart here w/ 24 years of driving experience. I hadn't even thought about the way folks learn to drive these things today. Back in the old days, the 80's, my friends and I had no nannies whatsoever, and we skated all over the road. I find that I don't need them now because I learned a long time ago how much you could push it in any given situation w/out it biting me in the ***, (which frankly wasn't much, if at all on a wet road). Fast forward to today, I still drive the same way, and the nannies never kick in, but you wonder if younger drivers rely on them too much without even knowing they're there? I guess in the OP's case, that would be true.

Be safe out there, these things are no joke if you do something stupid. But if you treat them w/ respect, you can drive them perfectly fine w/ the nannies off, they're not ticking time bombs or anything.

I've been driving a car since I was 13, mostly back roads and what not, but it's when I started. I had been driving quads and mini bikes and so forth already at that point.

I actually agree with your point. Many people talk about how powerful this car is, but the problem is with the nannies it's like driving a FWD car to some extent. There's really nothing you can do short of WOT that will really get you into trouble, albeit wet/icy/snowy roads.

I think if this car, at least in manual trans, was more reliant on a driver than nannies, more people would have a better appreciation for it.

The one thing I can say about the Dodge Viper that I actually love, is that it has always been a power car. You can't just get in it and drive it like a Cobalt or a Corvette. It's a car you have to drive...

I can easily handle the maneuver that I did... Ive done it many times a lot faster than this time with no problems... I just didnt realize I left the nannies off

and yes... even tho Ive been driving for over 8 years, I suppose I am still a younger driver. Now I realize what the nannies can really do so they have my 100% respect ... but I agree, people who have never driven with them off do not realize their power ...

in fact... with the nannies on, its VERY hard to get the back of the car to slide out more than 1 second... instead, the front slides out usually ...

What "maneuver" is required to do a task as simple as passing someone on the road going 25mph? My point is you shouldn't need driving aids to do something like that anyways.

A serious question for the more experienced drivers...

So, as per the mustang video earlier, after accelerating out of the turn, the car wips out the back end to the left, then with oversteer for correction, the car swings violently out of control to the right...just before that point,
....some would say he should have let off the gas completely,
.....some would say just ease of the gas so the tires dont hook up
again unexpectedly

but wouldn't it be best to just put it into Neutral when you feel you've lost control of the car?

Foot off the gas and steer into the direction the rear is skidding towards. Even then, some people get in trouble by OVERCORRECTING and having the rear whip around to the other direction. With experience, you don't even need to think about it and it becomes a natural reaction.

For what it's worth........a 399 or 426hp car (or even a 300hp V6) is NOT what someone should be using to get that experience in and to learn basic driving/survival skills.
