Just to clarify. The holder is bulky(and over priced), not the iPad. I doubt well see a smaller iPad anytime soon, if ever. You prob could replace the head unit with an iPad but you would need something to control the car settings and hvac ect. It's not impossible since those dash kits have extra hardware for this very reason. All it would take is fore some one to write an app that talks to the hardware. Since I can't do either, it's a lot easier said than done. As much as I hate the stock HU, I havnt seen a replacement option yet that works 100% without either breaking some stock feature or not allowing you to change car settings or some other annoyance. Or is just flat out ugly. I got the first iPad the day it released and for the next 8 months tried to find a good way to mount it in the camaro and ultimately didn't find a solution that fit me. Everything was either too bulky like the item in this thread or I didn't trust it's quality. With the iPad 2 I think I finally will have a solution. In this thread http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=135168 It shows the smart cover will hold the iPad on the dash pretty good and no extra bulk. But I am worried about the strength of the magnets not being strong enough to Hold up to an accident or a really hard stop. So the only thing it needs is some extra strength to make sure it won't ever come off unless you want it to. I've been thinking of some things the past few days and I think I'll have something that should work really nice.

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showpo...1&postcount=72 Not sure if you saw this or not but he just put velcro on the back of the iPad and used suction cups to hold it onto the HU along w/ the smart cover. However those of us w/o a LS we dont have the luxury of using the smart cover so I'm curious to see if the suction cups themselves would hold up. |

That's not a bad idea. Not exactly my cup of tea (extremely picky). But it does solve the stability issues I'm concerned with. I'm not cool with simi permanently fixing anything to the back of my iPad though, I wonder if they make double sided suction cups?
Tomorrow I'm going to pull out the dremel and try this idea I have. I'll report back if I'm successful.

And it looks like they do.
http://www.seasucker.com/productcart...=&idproduct=50 So if my other idea don't work out, I'll prob adopt this idea but use double sided suction cups instead of the Velcro.

I have my IPAD on a pro clip (proclip.com) that clips into the middle vent just above the radio. I can still see/use my radio and it comes right out if I need it to. No holes to drill and I have had no trouble with the heater blowing on it (just close those vents). Works great to run a nav program and bluetooth music over the car radio.
