I keep hearing negativity about the Boss' brakes. Is there some reasoning I have missed here? Every person that has driven one has said the brakes exhibit almost no fade, feel fantastic, and in testing it has continually stopped shorter than the cts-v. So where are these comments about the brakes coming from?

A friend went to the local ford dealer over the weekend, they have a boss 302 and are asking 10K over sticker, 53K total, FWIW...

[QUOTE=BigDan;3048074]Not like it matters but there is no such thing as a 2011 "track pack" Mustang GT. Thanks for being so honest though.

Eh, shows how much I know about stangs. It has the 19" wheels, brembos, and 3:73's. Glorious salesman told my son "track pack"... Impressive nn the less.

Your telling us your cammed camaro is not pulling away from your sons basicly stock GT! I dont belive that for a sec, your sig say 461hp at the wheels... your car should pull away from that stang no prob, if not something is up you should have at least another 70 rwhp!

Has anyone noted that the Z06 Corvette that was out run on Seca by the Boss is a 2005 model year. That is the first model year of the Z06 and only a 5.7 LS6 NOT the 505 HP LS7, remember there was a C5 Z06 that was not the animal that the C6 Z06 is.

The Boss Mustang is an awesome car and Ford gets an applause from me for building it, the Boss is what the Z28 should be. A lighter, tuned suspension, tuned up LS3, and some even sticker tires is what GM should be doing to the Camaro to make the legend that is the Z28.

The Boss will surprise a lot of drivers as it gets into the hands of people who track their cars. Also it will not be a slouch in the 1/4.

The 5.0 can surprise many drivers because with the correct mods, and a decent driver, and its gearing, it can jump on you fast. A good tune, exhaust system, and a few mods here and there wake those cars up. Get some tires and a driver, and you may find yourself in trouble at your track. Going up against a boosted one is no picnic as well.

Never underestimate what a car can do base on a forum. That's for import or US cars. Base it on the driver behind the wheel.

For 53K they could keep their Boss and give me an 11 GT500 a car actually worth 53k, not a retuned 5.0 with fancy stripes

A 5.0L with intake, tune, and exhaust will easily hit 425hp at the wheels, so the difference is going to be more like 45whp or less rather than 70whp you cite if his Camaro is laying down 460 or so to the wheels. A 5.0L with those three mods may be basically stock mechanically, but you wouldn't know that from the dynos these things put up.

Good read. You camaro guys are not near as bad as they say you are. Ha.

I think the reason the top end is better on the Camaro is those short 3.73 gears. Mine with 3.31 seems not to have that top end issue..(of course, its slower out of the hole). Of course with those gears my highway mileadge is also a tad over 27mpg as well. (my boss front lower valance and GT 500 rear diffuser probably help out with that as well though).

For 2011 what you refer to as the 'Track pack" is now renamed "the brembo brake package"

A couple other points. Aside from the whole "ford underrates their 5.0s as they are actually more like 435 at the crank" info that circulates around. I know for a fact they are severly detuned from the factory.

Don't take my word for it. Go to the Ford racing web site and look at the cheapest "power pack" for the 5.0. Its a joke. Its a K&N air filter, a case of oil, a set of GT500 mufflers (which probably are 90% sound and only good for a few hp) and......a procal tuner.

And... 16hp added but....... 60ft/tq ADDED. 60FT/LB TQ?

My feeling is that is all coming from the tune (with maybe 10hp 20ft/tq from the K&N and mufflers.

So you are talking about 428hp and 450ft/tq and most of it coming from just the tune.

Ok so this guys son has what again? (i cant see from this page where im typing). An intake, tune, and exhaust?

Yea..its very believable that they would be about even. A lot of the drag guys are using off road x-pipes with a 93 tune and an intake and and cat delete..... (supposedly) they are estimating very close to 500hp at the crank. I think ford left some room in this thing for mid cycle "magic hp increases" as this engine is basically in its beta year.

http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forum...91-116mph.html

He is knocking on the door of the 11s with just: Kooks LT and X-pipe, Steeda CAI, Steeda Axle Back, Brenspeed Dyno Tuned

As far as the boss..yea its more than a stripe kit. It has quad exhaust, a track key that can automatically change the timings to a 93 race tune (through some black magic electronics-yet to be released) fully adjustable racing suspension, its lightened, and has a free breathing manifold and different intake.

Better still, the internals. FORGED! The redline..increased to 8000 (i think). Rated hp is only 440hp but she could probably run all day at full throttle and not even break a sweat as far as the wear and tear on her (except of course those brembo brakes). Remember even the standard 5.0s have a 8qt deep oil sump that keeps the oil cool with a factory recommended oil change interval of 10,000 miles.

No, the 2005 model year was the first year of the c6 and the ls7 in the z06. The c5 z06 with the ls6 was made from 2001-2004. . .

Nobody wants to comment on why the boss brakes aren't great? I just want to hear some reasoning behind those statements.

One more point. They are not going for 53K. The two i looked at went for 47k and 49k. Each had $5,000 mark up. Not $10,000 as some say.

Here is the letter from a dealer i got just before deciding to just get the GT/CS

Allen,

Thanks for your inquiry on the Boss. We are selling all Boss 302's at 5k over sticker. The demand on them is very high as we have 8 allocated to us and 3 are sold already. They are a very limited production vehicle and are going for 5k or more over sticker everywhere in the country. I will be glad to get you the info of what we have coming in and you can reserve one from there. Let me know Allen. Thanks.

I am sure John would give it his best if anyone wants one. They have a couple GT500s for 56-57k there also. With the SVT package AND nav. They have several 10 Camaro SSs on the lot that people have traded for stangs so im sure they would take yours to. (ha ha..all in good fun).

I didn't say that it was, I said it wouldn't be a 70whp difference.
