Well, let's think about it, alot of the Mustang guys on this forum will sit here and profess to "the Lord" that the GT500 can run 11.1 with stick tires only at the track,...yet the ZL1 is exactly the car which was designed to be able to beat or at least "outperform" the GT500 its direct competition-which has 550hp. So my perception is this,....lets say Chevy with the ZL1 is able to beat the current GT500s performance numbers when the test come out, if that actually happens, how do we know the ZL1 won't be able to run an 11.1 with just sticky tires just like the GT500 supposedly can?
I mean think about it,....the GT500 comes stock with what, 550hp, we currently dont know what the ZL1 will have, for competition purposes we can assume at least 550hp, but what if Chevy gives the ZL1 580hp or something along those lines,....at the track why are we to suppose only the GT500 can run 11.1 stock with tires @550hp,....with more power why can't we image the ZL1 performing the same or better? And moreso, if the ZL1 was capable of an 11.1 with tires like the GT500, how much far apart then would that put it against the Z06 which supposedly can run 10's with just tires? If the ZL1 could run 11.1 with just tires like the GT500, I'd say it's a couple of ticks behind the Z06 in performance, and not a considerbale amount like we all may be lead to think. Sure the Z06 can run high 10s with tires, but 11.1 isn't that far out of the ball park of it's performance. It's ahead but not by much. It'll be very interesting to see what the ZL1 is bringing to the table against the GT500, but it'll be even more interesting to see what it can do at the track to close the gap against some of it's next of ken, the Corvette.

WHY CAN'T they just take the 638-hp LS9 and throw it in there ?! It's basically the same engine as the LSA !!! Instead of half ass doing it, why not go all out and do the best they can instead of holding back ?!?

A little problem with the argument in here - the z06 has run 10's BONE STOCK. That's not with drag radials, that is with stock tires. The fastest stock gt500 WITH slicks is still behind that time. I would expect the zl1 is going to be quicker on street tires than the current gt500 without a doubt. . . slicks may be a different story, but that completely depends on how strong the rear end setup on the zl1 is going to be. If it can handle the launches, it will be quicker or at least as quick as the current 500. Either way, it's still getting wrecked by the z06 street tire vs street tire. The z06 is a seriously quick car. If the zl1 puts down ETs within .6-.7 seconds of the best z06 times without slicks, I will be seriously impressed.

It would be too expensive and wouldn't be priced closely enough to the gt500, or at least that's my assumption.

We know the ZR1 is in the 10 second hollowed-grounds, but if a 505hp Z06 can runs 10s just like a 638hp ZR1 can, I couldn't justify the buy for the ZR1. This is of course, according to everything you said. If a Z06 can do 10s the ZR1 can do 9s,......on street tires. Im not buying it. Just wondering, can you show me some proof.........beyond a youtube video? Anyone can pull up a youtube video, most of which are unreliable and unverifiable. You got time slips or personal video? Im not saying the Z06 cant run 10s at the strip,.....what I am saying is I've never heard of a Z06 running 10s on street tires; meaning the tires from the factory. I've always heard, on drag tires.

There is plenty of proof in there and witnesses, etc. I have driven a few and I am not surprised. They are very quick. Most will be lucky to pull anything faster than a mid 11, but with the right driver and great conditions, that's what's possible. However, the z06 running a 10 does NOT mean a zr1 should run 9's. Moving from 10's to 9's is not like 13's to 12's. You need a hell of a lot of power and traction to run 9's and it is almost never going to happen with rwd on a street tire. Those times are wwaaaayy faster than normal and cutting a 1.70 60' with rwd on a street tire is real tough, but like I said, that's just what the car is capable of in perfect conditions. |

For a while keep in mind that the z06 fastest time was the same as the zr1 (i believe the zo6 had tires though), but their traps were 12 mph apart (in favor of the zr1).
