Need a new key!

Hey guys,

I posted this in one other section as well, not sure where I can get an answer. But does anyone know where I can get another key from? I lost one and only have my spare left...do they need to be programmed or anything, or are they just buy and drive? Thanks!

Sean

Gotta be programed I believe! But to make your key cut, you will need your vin!

You can buy keys on eBay, but then you have to have them cut and programmed. Our dealer told us not to lose them unless we wanted to pay about $150 to replace them.

got a second key after I bought my camaro used and had to order another key because the car only came with one, once I got it (ordered from dealer)I took my key that came with the car and put it into the ignition and turned it to the on position then immeditately took it out and put the other one in and turned it to the on position, at that point a message came up saying something to the effect that the second/third key was learned. and that was it, programmed it myself!

That worked on my car about 6 mo a go as well. Dealer replaced one of my keys that I was having problems with. Then they couldnt figure out how to program it and the service tech said I would have to leave my car there and they would need to connect laptop etc... I asked them to just give me the key and I would do it myself. About 3 min later, I had it programmed. They were speechless.

Any additional information on this? I tried this sequence this morning. I didn't receive any message from the Camaro. I placed my original key in and turned it to on. Then I removed the original key, and inserted the replacement. The car started, but the security "lock" symbol on the gauges was lit.

Also, once the key was programmed, did your remote (lock/unlock) buttons work too?

Thanks for your help.
-Alan

Engine on or accessory? I did accessory on with the old key and put the new one in all within 15 seconds, the new key was good to go just like the old one.
