sounds really cool without mufflers. mine has a great sound running straight pipes. and so much cheaper the buying the cat-back, or flowmaster and others.

For some reason a muffler delete sounds like it would be over the top loud.

I have a Flowmaster American Thunder cat back system on the way.

Tuning out Decel Pop

I'm about to my car SCT tuned by Ted, will it really hurt my mileage to have the decel pop tuned out because it gets on my nerves especially with my exhaust, plus I live on a Military base. My neighbor asked me about it the other day he said "whats that popping sound coming from your car"

I got rid of this on my personal car by turning off the "deceleration fuel cut off" with no noticable fuel milage change. However if most of your driving is highway milage it could hurt you. You may also have to add some to the tables for the P0068 "max airflow" tables. This is a test the ecm is constantly running to make sure the electronic throttle body is not stuck open. It checks the measured airflow against a series of tables and multipliers, including rpm, and map sensor reading, and desired throttle position. (something toyota should have spent more time on....lol) most people who are too lazy to spend the time to tweek these table just disable the test but this is not a good idea.... I have never personally seen one of the gm units stick but if it does you could be in for a wild ride. The first time I turned off the decel fuel cutoff I got this P0068 code and it only required about a 10% increase to get it to work.

I have also seen the popping go away after installing aftermarket headers and or aftermarket cats.

hope this helped...

Tell your neighbor that's the way a muscle car is supposed to sound.

In most instances yes, your putting fuel in when not needed.

Decel fuel cut off really helps mileage when you always on and off the gas at speeds below 45 mph.

No difference steady cruise Highway speeds though.

Ted.

Is this one of the "canned" options in the SCT or does it require a custom tune?

Oh, ok. You'll be writing my tune anyway whenever I get around to getting a cam but I'm still on the fence about the decel popping. I don't do a whole lot of city driving but I'd still like to know how bad I'll get nailed at the pump.
