The guy was in his Late 50's early 60's I'm guessing, couldn't have been a nicer guy,

I asked him if I could take a picture, the first thing he said was... Man it's so dirty... LOL

So we get to talking about his car, it's a 2012 he said, and apparently rare with the baby blue and no stripes. He's a long time GM guy who just couldn't wait for the ZL1. he'd been watching the camaro's and he had a Corvette he couldn't drive any more due to some joint problems so he got the GT500...

He loves it. I was hoping to surprise him a little when he asked me about mine but the first thing he saw was my teeny tiny THR "supercharged" emblem and said, "look at you!" LMAO, he then asked how much power I'm making, I told him 550 to the wheels, and we had a 10 minute conversation like we were old friends... At some point I told him, "GM doesn't have a GT500 fighter yet so I had to build my own." he laughed and said, "well I'm glad you warned me. I knew you weren't stock when you pulled up..." We agreed our cars were close enough that it didn't really matter... We shook hands and he drove off... Never even thought to ask his name... but damn his car sounded good as he got on it leaving the station...

I know I give you mustang guys a hard time here. I hope you understand that as a mod here we protect the interest of Camaro owners... But I really do enjoy the fact that the muscle car is back and how it bridges so many generations, cultures and backgrounds.

FWIW.
Awesome story!

What makes Camaro5 such a desirable site is the tone the moderators set. They let people go to about a 7. When it escalates to an 8 they put the brakes on. This site welcomes owners of vehicles other than a Camaro and the discussions make the site interesting. We all have to assimilate ourselves to the culture of Camaro5 and keep it at a 7 or less. Camaro5 -- Mutual respect with a bit of attitude.

BTW, Dragoneye is one of the coolest people I have come to know on Camaro5. Nobody messes with Texas or Dragoneye while I am around
Thank you, Pete! (I'll have to keep that one in my back pocket for a rainy day....)

went for a ride in a 5.0L today...

and although they aren't great to look at it went like it was on fire. Night and day difference in his car versus mine. His ran 12.9 stock at the track and he has some bolt on's and tune on the way. My buddy that was with him is looking for a Boss 302 right now so I guess I have my work cut out for me. On a side note a stock auto SS with 150 shot runs 11.96 in the 1/4. Car had 6000 kilometers on it.

Mod's make the difference. Stock for stock that 5.0 wouldn't be anything that special, modded to modded probably the same.

Speaking of the 5.0 mustang, I still can't believe Ford is dropping in Chinese made transmissions!

Auto is faster than stick buddy told me. That transmission shifts really good and almost launches like it had a converter.

For those who have driven the 5.0.....

is it noticably faster than the SS? I mean going by the butt dyno? I love camaros but have to consider all my options first.

Make sure you ask this on a Mustang website as well about the Camaro SS.

As for your question, I could not tell you, sorry.

I don't think they are any faster. At the track the last few weeks the stock ones run about the same times as the SS. They might feel a little quicker because of the weight difference. My friend said his 5.0 came with 3.73 gears so that will help with the feel faster to. The 5.0's I saw were running 13.50's to 13.90's with out a hard launch

Maybe a tenth or two quicker due to the weight difference assuming the drivers are equally skilled. No more than that. Mustang guys are almost always going to
say one thing and Camaro guys are going to say the other on their specific web forums. The reality is when power is equal the one with the less weight will have the advantage. Now thats all out the window when you add modifications, driver skill, and luck into the mix. Both are beast and represent their camp well.....it boils down to which one you want to own. Since Ford made the rear of the Mustang hideous to look at I would prefer a Camaro 1SS dressed in Black if I was choosing between the two.

my friend will agree with what i am about to say. my LS3 engine feels better to drive, but we both like the feel of his transmission better. both cars are manuals. we both have mods done at different times, tunes headers CAI etc we never once had both cars stock to get a comparison so i really dont know.

also from the mods we have done, i have more HP, buy his engine responded better to mods than my LS3 did.

Biggest difference I noticed is the 5.0 comes on very strong in the higher RPMs, but down low it is nothing special. Where as the SS 6.2L has strong torque all the way from just off idle. First time I stepped on a 5.0, I thought - is that all there is, pretty weak. Then I realized you had to really hold it floored and when the rpms build - then the power comes on real strong.

Give me a large cube pushrod V8 any day over a high revving overhead cam motor. I don't care which one does the 1/4 quicker, having more torque down low makes every drive more exciting - not just when you hold it floored to 7000 rpm.
