As to fuel economy......something to soak on:

The year: 1979.

Double digit inflation......

Double digit INTEREST rates......

Fuel prices thru the ceiling........

Double digit unemployment.........

.........and we delivered over 282,000 Camaros (and that doesn't include Firebirds.....) -- AND - -the 2nd gen was now 10 years old!

Gas prices do not always impact cars like Camaro and Corvette.......

Actually I remember coming back from southeast asia in '73 having to wait in long gas lines to get 5 gallons of gas and I was driving a '66 Corvette that got like 12 miles to the gallon.

What Will Motor Trend Complain About Now???

With a new suspension, revised dash layout, great steering wheel, what will Motor Trend find to complain about? It sounds like they've fixed most of the gripes.

I'm still waiting for the announcement of the new 5.5 direct injection V8 from the base 2012 Corvette rated at 440 HP. They could even call it a Z28 and I wouldn't mind, especially if they found some way to drop 100 LBS.

You'd be waiting for a while...fairly sure the 5.5L displacement is a racing-only engine.

I tried to buy a new ragtop from our local dealer, using my 2010 as trade in. Almost choked at the price they wanted. I can imagine what they will want for one of these. Think I'll hang on to my 2010 until they are a little less proud of the ragtops.

What sucks is we had to wait eight years for the return of the Camaro...it took GM's top Jack Asses to figure out there was a market for a two door four seat muscle car, Ford on the other hand has been doing it righ all along the first one rolled out on April 17, 1964, at the New York World's Fair. The basic model price was $2,368. Within a year, Ford had sold 417,000 models, most of which were hardtops.

I have been playing with my toys for over thirty five years, I am a Master Mechanic, Fabricator, and Welder....but i have yet to own a mustang...

GM had no real choice to drop the Camaro given sales numbers. For example in 2001 GM only sold 29,009 Camaros period. That is only about one third more than Z28s sold in 1969. More 1969 SS Camaros (36,309) and RS Camaros (37,773) were made than all the Camaros produced in 2001. The people spoke by not putting there money on the Camaro. You can't sell a car line with so few purchases. Maybe GM should have seen this coming, but that all is in the past now. Be thankful the Camaro is back and if people want it to stay that way they should keep buying them. GM listens to sales numbers.

i love that the old Camaro emblem from the 3rd & 4th gen is making half an appearance lol. its cool that they just kinda put it in there and cut it off like they did... i love that emblem!! & i really like those stripes. the steering wheel though... its too boring... if they just replaced the bowtie with the word "CAMARO" that would be so much better... its not unique to the camaro, which bothers me lol. other than that, lovin everything i see!!

YEH, And gas prices had gone up to an outrageous 54cents a gallon! Up from low average 20something to 30something cents a gallon the previous 30 years!

MT will still complain about the "lack of visibility", weight, no Nav or "Sync" system like the mustang, and how big the Camaro is.

They always find something to complain about.

Integrated exhaust manifolds? I'm not sure how many caught that as I haven't read through all 22 pages of this thread but that's not good news if you were planning to boost performance with headers. It looks like that's off the table. The power looks great but there won't be nearly as much gained with exhaust mods. You'll have to boost this engine for increased performance.

I caught that the day it posted. No option for headers disappointments me. Though with those integrated ports turbocharging will be a little easier.

The 45th isn't going to be a limited edition, they will keep making them as long as they are selling them.

As far as price...pricing last year came out on June 1st so it's a waiting game.
