Has anyone done it?
It is true. There is a DIY for removing the tape and sanding the doors to the edge to get the light to extend all the way.

What are you guys doing about the piece on the driver side? I heated up the tube and bent it but I still feel like that trim piece sticks way out...

I need to trim mine back. The tube only needs to be about 3 inches.

I cut mine down to like 3 inches and it still sticks way out! I certainly need to do something about it. I even cut out the back of the ABL panel where the clear areas are above the retainers and it didn't help all that much.

I cut the retainer on mine and still need to trim it a bit. I've just been lazy.

Unlike the passenger side, the drivers side doesn't need to have the light run the entire length of the panel. So I have a bit of a gap.

Does the drill method leave a gap on the drivers side too? Im not excited about cutting or drilling anything but the way it looks right now drives me nuts.

I did not drill the passenger side and I have light all the way to the edge, in fact I need to put something in to block it from shining out the side LOL.

I used a small (1/2" long) piece of clear fishtank air line tubing to connect the LED to the light tube, worked great and gives light to the edges.

I did the no drill method and Im pretty happy with the passenger side. Im just trying to figure out what to do with the driver side. That trim piece sticks too far out for me.

ABL seems to call attention to the trim piece sitting away from the dash when you open the door at night. Once, you notice it at night, of course you see it during the day too. Cut two small pieces of plastic, applied some touch up paint to the back, and slid them behind the passenger side trim, and the drivers side trim. Not nearly as annoying as before.

Joe

Test fitting rough cut piece of plexiglass, with blue shipping plastic still attached.

Painted the back of the plastic with touch up paint (Upper piece is rough cut piece for driver's side)

Side panel keeps the piece from falling out.
